MD, I'm glad you're up with my use of puffer now 😄
How'd you go with trackies? I'll add cardie, hoodie, flannie. Nightie or pjs for sleepwear - Uggs are acceptable as indoor footwear only in the city (although the occasional flannie pj & Ugg combo is often seen dining in at Maccas).

Yes, I do. It runs in my family - My mother, me, my sister and my daughter. So far my granddaughter is OK but a bit borderline and should be watched.

I guess you mean that you still have the condition that caused the problem. For me that is Hashimotos

golden: My PCP routinely checks my TSH levels and adjusts my micrograms of my Levothyroxine, which, yes, I do take. As I said, when first dx'd I ballooned, but not now. Perhaps I am incorrect in saying still hypothyroid, as I do take med.

So you are taking thyroid med also?
(3)
Report

When you say still hypothyroid Llama, I am puzzled. Do you mean you are not treated with replacement meds such as levothyroxine. Is your TSH still too high?

I see your edit. You gained at first and now you can't, gain. That could happen with too much meds.

I was diagnosed years ago and have been on meds since then Actually I was first on meds as a child. and them as a late teen. They only gave it for a while then. But I have been on it continuously for years now needing dose adjustments sometimes.

You are a bit unusual, Llama. Most people who are hypothyroid gain weight.

I have trouble keeping weight off too. Have done all my life so I watch it carefully. When it comes down to it, for the most part it's what you eat. Most people put on a few lbs a year as an adult so if you don't adjust your eating you end up overweight. As you get older your metabolism slows down and you need less calories.

Ana: Yep, still hypothyroid. Originally when first dx'd I gained a ton. But now cannot gain as a 76 y.o.

MD1748 - I know a puffer to be a puffy line or box quilted jacket, coat or vest. I love my puffer vests! Toasty trunk with full use of my arms.

I am hypothyroid too, and a stress eater. Unlike you, Llama, I can’t lose it. Even doing Weight Watchers and playing hockey 3x week. My diet buddy lost 76lb while I lost 8. Infuriating! I think I gained her lost 76lb while struggling with my mother.

Llama - that's an unusual problem as we age. Good for you!

I guess I'm perplexed. I think properly fitting jeans can be worn by a person of any age. Am I out to lunch here?

Gershun, I agree - it's very personal and I wish you luck in finding things that you like. It's important to feel good in what you are wearing. Those dark wash jeans with a long sleeved top sound awesome, I guess I am not seeing your problem or maybe you are feeling you need a change. If you don't need stretchy waists, the world is your oyster. lol I wish!

Beatty, I see your emphasis is on jeans too, and leggings,

To me it's all in choosing what works for you.

Saw 3 middle aged women yesterday in sport type leggings. The bright, super coloured flowery or graphic design type. Plainish tops, maybe a bright scarf. It's winter here. I get comfort wear. I get elastic waists. I get having tight pants to hold it all in. But I'm just not 100% sold.. I doubt they were just about to squeeze a run into their daily errands.

Sport wear has been comfort wear for a while I suppose.

It IS hard for middle aged women to find their nieche. Around here there is the Classic (nice collared shirt, nice jumper, nice jeans, puffer vest), the Smart Casual (tee & jeans, leather boots & bag, quality puffer), Casual (tee & leggings, puffer) & the Arty (unusual designs, long skirt) or The Bogan (checked man shirt, baggie trackie daks, slippers as day shoes & a glimpse of a 'whale tail' for a feminine touch).

I admit I do have jeans with holes in them. They are my most comfortable cause they are baggy. But I mostly wear snugger dark wash jeans with a nice tapered long sleeve shirt or a long tee. In winter I'll sometimes wear black tights with a longish sweater over top.

My mom always wanted us to dress well. I was that kid in school who was wearing the conservative dress pants while all the other kids wore jeans. When I finally started choosing for myself my mom couldn't get me out of my jeans.

But I find it harder and harder to find appropriate clothing for me and when I say appropriate I mean clothes that suit me and don't make me look like I'm trying to look younger than my age. I feel that just cause I can get away with wearing jeans a twenty/thirty something would wear doesn't mean I should. But that's just me. When it comes right down to it people should wear whatever they want, within reason.

When DH shops with me he always points out things Taylor Swift would wear. I just say "Ah..............no!"

Golden, I know some people need the elastic waist band. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound discriminating.

Sounds like a lovely intimate wedding, cw.

I like ivory color wedding dresses. I bet your nephew looked quite handsome!

I’m sure you looked beautiful in your new dress.

I don't think there were any major hitches with the wedding NHWM, at least not from my perspective. The bride's dress was less elaborate than I imagined it would be, a lovely sleeveless ivory gown with a tulle over skirt and short train. No head gear, just a few baby's breath in her hair. The groom was handsome in his european style bespoke suit with lavender tie.
The guest list was very small, mostly just immediate family. Nephew was insistent he wanted all the children to be included and I was amazed they were so well behaved throughout the ceremony and meal.
