Hey folks, welcome to the new whine/general topic thread. Feel free to use this thread to discuss anything that is on your mind. Caregiving- related stuff, life after a loved one's death, your own emotional wellbeing. Whatever..........anything on your mind.
At least she didn’t chirp “You left the house wearing THAT?!?” at them. That was reserved for me.
So so glad I went to a public school. Although I did occasionally wear kilts as I was a punk rocker.
How was the wedding? What kind of dress did the bride wear?
I did discover that apparently a grandmother/grandchild relationship is quite different than a mother/daughter relationship. I am not a grandmother so I can’t speak to this first hand.
All I know is that my mother seemed to relish being a grandmother and enjoying her grandchildren without having the responsibility of raising them.
I am glad though that my mother didn’t criticize how my daughters dressed. She didn’t really criticize my eclectic taste in clothes or music when I was a teenager. Not that I would have changed my mind about what I liked.
I grew up in the mini skirt and micro mini skirt era. It killed me to wear my Catholic school uniforms! LOL 😆
The nuns made us kneel down on the floor and if our skirts didn’t touch the floor we were in trouble! No problem, as soon as I walked away, I would roll up my skirt!
Far from being a clothes horse. But atypical for my demographic.
I hate fiddling with pantyhose. If it’s warm enough to wear it, skip it. If it’s chilly, give me tights.
What item of clothing do you hate the most? I refuse to wear pantyhose in our heat! I wear a comfy summer dress but without stockings! Sandals, absolutely! Pedicure? Yes, please!
I will never stop wearing jeans and tees.
My mom was never, ever frumpy, nor my grandmother. They were very stylish. My godmother dressed beautifully too.
I exist in 2 colours: pasty or (sunburn) painful.
Oh, the glamour!
I’m recovering from a knee tweak, which is why I’m online so much today.
daughters - they have their own ways. Mine started out wearing and making up front fashion stuff in her teens and then converted to jeans and t shirts, She's kind of in between now which I think it good.
Need and Ana - she shops thrift stores sometimes and makes some very good buys.
Send as you get older you have to work harder at lots of things. I will agree - you are not frumpy!
Ok, I guess if you have long, straight hair (not frizzy), no panties, and a tanned complexion, you are a surfer girl? Lol. (that's not me, BTW).
I might be "frumpy", under this definition, but no one is going to see or detect my gramma panties.
OK, I am not frumpy, but have to work harder on it these days. Buying new clothes this spring has helped.
Same here, one of my daughters is such a diva! The other one would just as soon shop at a thrift store or consignment shop.
I thoroughly enjoyed “Grace and Frankie” (Netflix) and, after years of shlepping off to work dressed like Grace, my kids say I have a Frankie wardrobe. Not as many flowy layers or beads but I love my flannel shirts, overalls, Converse sneakers, Doc Marten boots, cartoon, comic strip and music tees. Life is potentially short. So I’m dressing how I feel, not how others expect me to present myself.
i suspect I’d fit the definition of frumpy.
Yes, some people look good in a burlap sack - like Marilyn Monroe!!!
MD - I buy sales most of the time.
Golden - some women can look good wearing a burlap sac 🤷🏻♀️
Lets analyze frumpy so we can avoid it,
What identifies frumpy?
Ill fitting, out of date, not suiting the wearer, drab (I will never be accused of that),
What else, folks?
Yes, Costco was where I found my pants! And a long sleeved gray blouse-wearing it to bed, so comfy.
Golden,
You are exactly right, we don't do shredded jeans. I don't even do faded.
Conservative here, so no one will actually be taking any fashion advice from me.
Just trying to avoid "frumpy" wear.
"Life's as kind as
the people you fill it with."
Never would, never will!
Dd wears very well fitting, don't mean tight but that they fit well, dark or medium wash.
I have just bought some summer pants with a ruched waistline. Hope they don't stretch out. When I bent over to clean the cats litter box the other day, my older pants fell off.
Totally agree with comfort, but that's a little too comfortable.
I wore them at work for years; when doing assessments on preschoolers, the floor is the place to be.
I also find good pants at Costco frequently. Who knew?
The 3 old men? Just how physical can they get? Lol.
Did the cops come?
There is a difference in elastic pants, I think.
There is an elastic waist vs, the stretch jeans. One can wear the stretch jeans tighter without cutting off your circulation (skinny jeans), and they are still considered fashionable.
Some jeans come with cuts in them ready made. They cost more than the undamaged jeans. I know, because I looked them up when the pastor's wife was wearing them on live-streaming. 🙈
I have given up buying jeans. There are some newer fabrics put out by sports wear companies (mostly come in gray or navy), they are good enough to go out in public shopping. The jeans I have don't even have holes, cuts, or shreds yet.
When they do,I will use them as insulation between the walls.
Clothing comfort is key. However, if you do buy stretch, you might just grow into the maximum stretch. Don't do that.
So glad you are walking better. All those exercises must be paying off.
Make that 50 to 85 lol. But really. Dd is 58 now and she wears jeans or sweats, dresses, jean jackets and so on and looks great in them. She often shops in "younger" stores because they fit her better but she still looks appropriate. I, on the other hand, shop anywhere. If it fits and I like the colour and it looks good on me, I wear it. I guess I don't understand what clothing you are wanting.
Don't knock those of us who need flexible waists. This is not an age thing for me but lifelong. Even in my 20s at 120+ lbs I didn't have that much of a waist. It's just the way I am built. If it fits everywhere else the waist is too small. Of course, aging doesn't help. Hey, I know I have buddies out there. lol
Gershun, you are walking better, you are slender and look younger than your years. Enjoy!!!!
Other than that, my walking was pretty good today. I didn't feel I was limping as bad. Trying not to jinx myself by hoping too much though. Got a a cute summer tee and a new blow dry brush. They do need to come up with stores for women between the ages of 50 through 75 I think. I mean I'm not ready for elastic pants yet but won't wear sweats that say juicy on the butt either. A nice in between would be great!

but by worry and resentment."
My Uncle is too ill to go anywhere anymore but I really Love the letter idea.
That had crossed my mind .I just hadn't figured out the words yet but now thanks to you I think I may have some.
I really appreciate you mentioning that.
Thank you so much~
Have a good night ahead~
I love the letter idea! I have very sweet letters from various people that I will never get rid of.
The other suggestion I have would be to write him a heartfelt letter about all the things you love about him, and all the good memories you have of him. Then, you read it to him. Let him know while he still can hear you. Bring tissues.
Seeing you, will be the best gift. I’m sorry that your uncle is in pain.
Thank you to everyone~
Thank you for all your kind and caring ideas on what I can get for my Uncle.
Now I have some stress off my shoulders and I'll be able to sleep better tonight.
I hope all of you have a good night~
Thank you all so much~
I'm so sorry for the loss of your 2 Uncle's.
The skylight frame sounds neat and I appreciate you mentioning it.
I'll ask my Aunt and see what she thinks about it,if it would make my Uncle sad.
Spending time with him is the best gift, your'e right.
I appreciate your kind suggestions~
Take care and have a good night~
