send - I remember that you said in another post that your hubs thyroid blood test was normal. Am I remembering right? I am glad they are following up with a biopsy. My understanding is that high thyroid levels increase heart rate and therefore can affect blood pressure, but it is not one of the "classic" symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Low thyroid can produce high blood pressure too.

Can we talk about this?
My dH went to his endrocrinologist for a biopsy of a thyroid nodule.
Dh has spiking high b/p, and episodes of tachycardia (rapid pulse of 108).
The doctor actually said:
"Your thyroid has nothing to do with your blood pressure".

This phrase: "has nothing to do with" has been repeated by his other doctors.
Is this a new phrase, used by HMO's, or Medicare Advantage Plans to decrease medical expenses so that the doctors are prohibited looking further into a person's health? Or, what could it be? Has anyone's doctors used this phrase?

"It has nothing to do with?".

The fact is:
"Thyroid hormone has well-recognized effects on the cardiovascular system and blood pressure regulation. Blood pressure is altered across the entire spectrum of thyroid disease. "

I agree FF, if we are going to stop changing the clocks then for g@wds sake please please please keep us on DST, not standard time!!

I always liked Daylight Savings Time, otherwise in summer it would be day light at 5 a.m. and would get dark around 8pm instead of 9. Loved that extra hour of day light in the evenings for doing chores around the house. For some reason my inner Hazel shuts down when it get dark outside :)

Llamalover,
I do not know your husband's age or conditions, but have you heard of intermittent claudication (a limp).

Intermittent claudication is pain affecting the calf, and less commonly the thigh and buttock, that is induced by exercise and relieved by rest. Symptom severity varies from mild to severe. Intermittent claudication occurs as a result of muscle ischaemia during exercise caused by obstruction to arterial flow.

If he injured his leg, that is different.

Hoping he is better today.

My dH tolerated the thyroid biopsy just fine. Then we had an In N Out burger.

golden: Thank you.

Send: He did not go to dr. Feeling only slightly better, but weak. Thanks.

My heart goes out to everyone dealing with DST, I felt robbed of sleep for half the year when I lived in Vegas.

I love and will always love Arizona for not using DST. Now my biggest headache is trying not to call a loved one too early or too late for the 1st Mont after each change.

cwillie, the issue about kids going about their activities in the dark... here in MN many kids who participate in after-school sports still have to deal with that. They often get home by 5pm (and also rush hour) or later and in the winter here it is pitch black by then. Daylight Savings doesn't really solve anything nowadays.

Llama,
Yes, that does need to be looked at, hoping your husband is okay!
Prayers all around!
For everyone.

send and llama - hope your hubs are OK

re DST I would rather they get rid of it and change school times or etc if considered to be the right thing to do.. My kids caught busses in the dark several months of the year anyway without any problems. Fiddling with our internal clocks is not healthy.

I dislike daylight savings time because in the spring when everyone gets one less hour of sleep, we have the most dangerous day. More auto accidents, more heart attacks, more industrial accidents. I like the daylight for 6:30a bus runs and wish we would leave the time change alone for early daylight. Right now, the kids get on the bus in total darkness. Either delay school or change the time!

Send: You're welcome. Hope your DH receives a good outcome. My DH's leg is hurting - going to urgent care facility tomorrow. I noticed he had kind of a slight limp 2 days ago.

Thank you Gershun!
No details, but I think you are right, a fine needle biopsy, guided by ultrasound maybe. His lab re: thyroid is good.

If there is an explanation for his changes in behavior, that would help.

Thank you for your encouragement!

Eleven hours of daylight here.

I hope everything turns out positive for your hubs and his thyroid biopsy Send. What is it going to be? A fine needle aspiration? I had that done a few years back.
I remember them saying "Now keep still and try not to swallow" Yeah, okay......gulp. Oh right, I'm not supposed to swallow. Easy to say but hard to do when someone is sticking a needle close to your jugular. But it went fine. I'm still here.

It will go fine with your hubs too.

That goes to my point that people seem to blame the short days and darkness on the time change when it's really just an inevitable part of living where we do. Thk god my ancestors settled here rather than in a place with no winter daylight at all.

Our days are so short DST doesn’t make much difference. By Thanksgiving the kids will be coming and going in the dark. Kids play outside in the dark. We should be in the Atlantic time zone like Nova Scotia but we’re not.

One would think, if people would leave the sun, moon, and stars alone to do their natural thing, we would not need so many laws, rules, and legislation.

Schools could change their schedules so that children would not need to travel in the dark.

I wake up after a nights sleep, and do not get up or go outside if it is dark.
Businesses could also change their schedules to be open at a decent time.
Stores too.

Becky, apparently that hasn't been passed by the House yet, only Senate.

I'd like more daylight in the afternoon too, but I really don't like the idea of rural kids waiting for the bus or even town kids walking to school in the dark. And on blustery winter days it's hard enough driving to work in the morning, often daylight can make all the difference.
(2)
Report

Here in MN I'd rather there was more daylight at the end of the day, not the beginning. I remember the time change always screwing up my kids' nap times (which in turn messed with my schedule) twice a year. Then there's the challenge for global businesses trying to schedule meetings in multiple time zones (and with the confusion of some states that don't participate in the change). A lot of unnecessary hassle for no good reason. I'm not a fan of the time change.

Daylight savings time will become in either 2023 or 2024. Congress passed a new law last year.

I've never understood the angst from people who hate changing the clocks.
1/ Yeah, the days are getting shorter whether we change clocks or not, lack of sunlight by suppertime is inevitable in the winter.
2/ And if you aren't changing your clocks until you go to be you're an idiot, it's easy to gain or lose an hour in the middle of the day (I do it all the time 🤣).

Spring forward, Fall back...
That time change is coming soon Gershun.

I don't like it either, shifting time around.
