Find Care & Housing
Last night I found out my creatures that go bump in the night radar is still working - I was awakened by some very subtle noises but after listening carefully I decided it was outside. About a half hour later I was awakened again and with trepidation I turned on the light to investigate... it was a toad, there was a toad in my bedroom. Little bugger must have come in with my houseplants, but what has it been up to for the last couple of weeks since being inside?

send - Nobody wants to swap their house for northern Alberta in the winter - No-bo-dy!!!

glad - happy that you are happy. Not a good place to work, eh? The commuting and b&bs were a challenge. The hearing/application???
Moving closer to your kids eventually sounds like a good idea. Hope the showing goes well.

Our thrift shop hasn't been accepting new donations for a few weeks. They are overloaded and the trunk of my car is full of stuff to donate. I found another place that takes clothing and there is always the Too Good To Dump face book site.

Living in a hot flash, year around? LOLOLOOL! I love the snow too, but we don't get enough of it here. However, I am very grateful, I don't have to drive 100 miles to go to work tomorrow when we are expecting a few flakes. I am really happy that is over, even though it was not my choice.

What I expect to happen at the hearing on Tuesday night is a denial of the application because people don't like it. Has nothing to do with whether the applicant met all the requirements of the code.

The hard part is still thinking about moving closer to my kiddos with the market as crazy as it is. I love my home, the payment I can manage on SS alone and on nearly an acre. Lots of space. Have a showing tomorrow, I would like to get out of here, but I will remain firm on my price, no more nonsense!

cw - Snow birding sounds good to me but R has livestock and it is hard to get someone to care for them. And this winter he is on a list for a knee replacement which is long overdue. I could always go alone!

ff - I love the snow when it's not very cold, but it gets pretty bad at times here. I walked to school in all weather too. Lots of snow in Ontario.

gershun -I really wouldn't want no seasons either. We have had a long fall and it has been great. My favourite season!

We had an unusually long summer here in B.C. this year. I never thought I'd say this but I'm kind of glad it's getting cooler and rainier here. I personally could not live somewhere where it's sunny year round. I like the change of seasons. Although I don't like it when we put the clocks back an hour. Evening seems to last forever.

The thing about being a snowbird is you can hang around for those first magical snowfalls and then hit the road when things start getting grim. I just need to find somebody down south who will let me come visit from about mid January to the end of February 🤣

I can't wait for the first snow fall, I know that sounds crazy. I grew up in upstate New York, the land of ice and snow. Walked up hill both ways in knee deep snow going to school k-12. Been in northern Virginia now for decades and just love the weather here, except for not enough snow showers. Spent a few years on and off in Texas, felt like living in a hot flash all year round.

You definitely aren't moving far enough south for that Golden, maybe you should be a snowbird (for me the idea gets more attractive every winter)🥶

It was glad not me!

Frost here last night and a few flakes of snow. Waaaah! I want to live where it is 70 degrees year around. I don't mind rain, in fact I like it, but I can do without the cold,

There are always repairs it seems. I love a wood fire but don't care for the work involved. Mine needs a good cleaning out too and it's on my list. The condo has a gas fireplace which will be easier. The electrician is coming next week for some small repairs and I want the plumber here to a little work. Then once R finishes his stuff we are done that part. Stuff is getting tossed and more needs to go yet. I cleaned out the garden shed the other day. So thankful for this prolonged nice weather, but I know the cold is coming.

Tim Hortons uses cream with 18% milk fat -100% Canadian dairy! Makes no difference to me I take it black. I think they changed the coffee. I haven't been to Timmy's in years.

There is a class action lawsuit against Coffeemate (coffee creamers) because they added trans fats. Partially hydrogenated soybean oil.

Tim Horton's probably did the same to the coffee creamer in Canada.

It is not only less creamy but very bad for you!

Bring your own cream.

I don't think gershun is saying she has been diagnosed. I think they are talking about all that sugar in their coffee. I hope.

Since inspector was here broke bathroom faucet and fireplace didn't work. Fireplace had been making me nuts. How do millers find every gap to get in? Fireplace looked like a cremation oven for millers, and not a very good one. I managed to get into the fireplace and clean out those critters. Cleaned the glass. Looking so much better and got it burning again!

Maybe I'll have to start ordering it double double, and you will have to move up to... triple triple 😲??

Willie, you are not imagining it. I always ordered a double double at Tim's. Lately, I've been noticing it tastes very watery or something. I've had to start asking for three sugars instead of two.

This is the third time my Tim's dark roast regular is not up to snuff - I'm pretty sure they are cheaping out on the cream and sugar because today I noticed the colour of the coffee looks the same as the coffee with milk I make at home 😒

Over breakfast with DH, we discussed the moon some more. Here, the sun and the moon both travel through the northern sky. In the northern hemisphere, the sun travels through the southern sky (and you get used to this in US and UK books on gardening and house design). But what about the moon? In the northern hemisphere, does it travel through the northern or southern sky? We guessed that it would be the same as the sun, but we simply don't know.

Just for interest, with views of a big sky on the farm, we learned that although the sun rises and sets towards the north of east and west in winter, and to the south of east and west in summer (longer days etc), the reverse is true for the moon. ‘Full moon nights’ are longer in winter, and shorter in summer, and the moon is higher in the sky.

Report

Yes! Full moon on October 9th! I am so used to the northern hemisphere seasons being the wrong way round, the sun being in the wrong half of the sky, and the day/night time being all over the place, that it’s almost surprising to know that the moon is the same for all of us, wherever we live.
