Pamz - glad you has a good night and felt great the next day, Gluten or nightshades may not be an issue for you. I didn't have so much trouble giving up gluten. I'm not much of a bread person, but with dairy and giving up cheese was harder. I try things out too and if they work - good. If not there's always something else. Stress is a big item! Hope you find your answers.

So do I, even though DH just breathes very heavily (18 inches from my ear), he doesn't snore.

PamZ: If your DH coughs a lot at night, maybe you would want to invest in ear plugs. My DH is a snorer, thus I wear ear plugs to sleep.

Golden, you may be right. I eat alot of tomatoes, but I am not ready to go gluten free,, I love my bread! Yesterday I felt the best I have felt in a month.. but I did forget to take the turmeric once,, LOL I will say hubs did not cough all night so I did sleep better just with that. It was a beautiful day, and I was very relaxed so no stress. I'm just hanging in there trying things!

You could be right Golden. I've noticed that any time I've suffered from panic attacks it's been in the fall. Plus my Doc suggested I could benefit from an iron supplement cause my blood work showed I'm at the low normal range. I bought a liquid supplement that is 10 mg. Hopefully it will do the trick. If not I'll keep on looking.

I should add I have been gluten free since and also went dairy free after checking it about a year later,

gershun - maybe the change of seasons is affecting you.

pamz - I've been thinking about your post - slowly - as I have my own brain fog to deal with. I'll share how I tackle these problems. Basically I look at my lifestyle, as much disease has its roots in lifestyle. Gentle exercise can build up muscle which then supports joints. Mother had two deteriorated discs but didn't have back pain as her "muscle corset" supported her spine. She greatly believed in exercise for muscle strength and improved circulation. My knees used to be painful. I started doing a few squats and now they aren't. I work on improving sleep, diet, exercise, and decreasing stress. I have few prescriptions but do take supplements.

As I understand it, diet can aggravate arthritis, as can stress. Removing nightshades (tomatoes, eggplant, white potatoes, bell peppers etc.) may help arthritis. Going gluten free may too. When I realised my sinus problems were diet related I tried going gluten free for 2 weeks to see, and it made a great difference.

To improve sleep and reduce stress you can induce parasympathetic activity (meditation, humming, singing, deep breathing etc.) Gentle exercise will strengthen muscles, and relax you. Drinking tea - green, black gives health benefits. These are some of the things I do.

Brain fog has many sources. Lack of sleep is one. I work on sleep hygiene. For me it also comes with CFS/FM. Tylenol is not generally considered anti inflammatory but it has been found that it reduces neuronal inflammation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2662814/

Dextromethorphan may help with brain inflammation too and pain as well. https://www.healthrising.org/blog/2021/03/02/dextromethorphan-fibromyalgia-neuroinflammation-study/

Normal doses of both of these are enough.

I look for solutions that don't harm and are manageable for me. I can't exercise much due to CFS/FM though I can a little and even that helps. I can modify my diet, even if I don't like to always but the results make it worthwhile. I work on reducing stress, or managing it better. and getting better quality sleep. Hope you can take something useful from my experiences. ((((((hugs))))))

just thinking some thoughts, while i lie here in bed.

i’m about to sleeeep.

hugs to all! hope you’re ok. i’ve had some tough weeks. i’m helping my LOs.

in my real life, i’m a lawyer. when the law doesn’t work, i use my teeth and bite and growl. very effective. if all else fails, i bring my cat with claws, to court, and let him
loose.

anywayyy, i was thinking about my law work. i work on rock-bottom, non-negotiable rights. basic, basic rights that no one has a right to take away from you.

well, many of us are in abusive situations. the same person we’re helping is awful to us.

i think it helps to have a vision of your future:
you might not know today how to reach that goal, but always keep in mind your non-negotiable goal (for example, a life free from being abused)——

otherwise people will use you for their goals.

I just was browsing through the Emmy award show thinking how obnoxious some celebrities can be when Michael Keaton went up to accept an award and said this
"My face hurts so much from all the fake smiling I've been doing" LOL, LOL,

You said it Mike!

Thx Willie. I can attest to that fact. I just went across the street for a coffee and my throat is burning. I usually can see the mountains from my window. Not today!

I was going to start my walks again today since it's cooler but I guess fate has stepped in. Maybe tomorrow.

The weather network is reporting that Vancouver is experiencing the worst air pollution on the planet today due to wildfire smoke - thinking of you Gershun (and all the other people struggling with fires too). If the air is getting too hard to breathe your n95 mask is supposed to be effective for smoke too.

I'm thinking of how back in the day my girlfriends and I used to hit the wedding reception circuit almost every weekend for cheap booze and dancing (open receptions are a thing of the past, then it was the more the merrier). Come on and crank up those tunes with me and dance like you're 20... "shake it up baby now twist and shout"....
You know you wanna!

Thank you all!! I have pretty severe back pain and arthritis, some days worse than others,, some days are pretty good. I take one Diclofenic pill a day.. but not the nighttime dose ( I don;t really like taking pills) All my vitamins and such are in gummy form,, if I need to take them they can at least taste good,, right ? The gummies I got have a pretty healthy dose of turmeric,, and ginsing. Good to know about the black pepper for the future. As to the brain fog,, I have an idea its from poor sleep,, but my Dr is working on that.. stress does not help but things are getting better in the stress area.

I use turmeric a bit, Pamz. It helps reduce pain associated with inflammation. I make different loose turmeric teas from Vahdam. I agree that it won't hurt to take some, but I wonder about the potency of gummies and if there's enough in them to make a difference for you -- it should be 1,000 mg/day, according to Google.

A coworker introduced me to making little 1/4-inch balls of turmeric: wet your fingers, roll the powder into a ball, then you have pre-made daily doses.

I thought that was an ingenious approach to forming a daily dose from loose powders so that you can store them ahead of time in little Tupperware in your frig and pop one in your mouth in the morning. You must take them with a lot of liquid if anyone wants to try that route. Imagine trying to choke down a little ball of powder on its own. It reminds me of "the cinnamon challenge." lol

For brain fog, I take Ginkgo Biloba daily. Cardio exercise helps my brain fog, too.

Pam what is the cause/dx for the pain and brain fog? I get pain and brain fog from being low thyroid and also from CFS/FM. Obviously the solutions are different.
(4)
Report

Pamzi, turmeric is an anti inflammatory. It should be taken with black pepper to be most effective. I, unfortunately, am allergic, however, I did notice a reduction in pain, just a massive allergy headache. :-(

Tart Cherry is really good for pain too, in case turmeric doesn't do the job completely.

Mushrooms are the best for brain fog.

Off the wall question here, but I know we have a lot of members who use herbs, oils and such, As do I for some things, so my mind is open here, but I get burnt out by all the commercials on TV touting miracle cures. BUT,, I just bought some turmeric gummies to help with my pain "and brain fog". I figured I could try them for a month and at least see if they help. Anyone else on here try these things? I have read a few articles and they seem harmless if they don;t work.
