Find Care & Housing
You are exactly right Cwillie!
A reduction in tolerating noises is what I was reading last night when I could not sleep.

Thinking that I should make the bedroom into a padded cell, the opposite is true...do not insulate oneself from noises.

Send - generally I turn it off but sometimes I actually am interested in the topic or I'm waiting for the news or weather report. When it's a professor I can't help but feel pity for their poor students who have to sit through lectures from these people!
Plus I know that too much sitting alone in a silent house is really reducing my tolerance for noise and crowds (and noisy crowds 😉).

CWillie,
Five minutes? You are much more patient than me. That is about 4 minutes longer than I can stand to listen lately.

As long as you are not talking back at them, cursing, yelling, and screaming.
Or even worse, still frustrated after turning off the radio. 🤔

Upspeak, mumbling, vocal fry, humming?

Why oh why don't radio shows that include interviews of "experts" vet these people before putting them on the air??? I'm sick and tired of hearing obscure professors and others who mumble, ramble on incoherently for 5 minutes without ever really answering the questions, have repetitive annoying vocal ticks and are just hard to listen to and/or understand.

Thank you Hallah.
The City will be bringing in real snow at several events throughout the holidays. And skiers returning home often dump their snow in various places like In N Out or gas stations. ☃️

I have never heard of that recipe. Guess you cannot eat it.

You gave me an idea. I could take the ingredients down to the white sandy beaches of Malibu. Mix in some sand, and make a snowman. I am sure this is not an original idea, and the practice of adding anything to beach sand is probably banned.

Send, I know you mean real snow. In the meantime here’s how to make some fake snow:

Baking soda and conditioner. For this recipe, be sure to use white conditioner so your fake snow looks just like the real stuff. Start with 1/2 cup of conditioner, and use a fork to stir in about 3 cups of baking soda. This snow packs very well and is great for making snowmen!

I haven’t tried it so don't know how it will turn out.

I was mostly kidding Willie...........mostly.

I think with all the sh*t going on in the world these days people's tolerance levels have reached an all time high. Maybe that's why no one else seems to care.

I could do all that Gershun and Geaton, but I don't want to be "that" neighbour, KWIM? And I can't figure out why it doesn't seem to bother anybody else.

Cwillie, are there not noise ordinances or curfews where you live? If so, I'd say file a complaint. Make sure to video it, including the time of night and the volume of noise while standing outside your front door or side of your house that's closest to his. Ugh, why can't people just play nice??

Willie you should just go out there and shout "Turn the effing music down!" Then add "but you have a Merry Christmas ya hear!" Then say "oh right, you can't hear cause you have the effing music too loud!"

Too harsh? 🤣

I have a neighbour that goes all out for Christmas with both lights and music. I can hear the music in my bedroom, I'm willing to put in earplugs while I read but not when I'm ready to sleep. (yes,I know I complain about this every year).
This year I caught him outside and asked if he could kill the music by 10:00 (I'd rather it is even earlier but...). He replied "I could do that", and I thought whew, that was easy, problem solved! Soooo, the problem is not solved 🤬.

CWillie, I hear you!

I have used the holiday cards; many of them were really quite nice, with beautiful holiday scenes.  My father's local Senior Center accepts card donations, so I'll be giving them some.  And some of the labels were lovely, especially the ones from the nature and military solicitors.

But I resent the religious ones; for all those solicitors know,   I could be a practicing Buddhist and have no use for the cards.

What really, really irks me are the solicitations by phone, allegedly from first responders, attempting to get ME to solicit for them through their provision of cards.  One alleged breast cancer outfit contacted Dad and asked him to solicit in his neighbor for BC donations!  To echo words form an old song, "That'll be the day!"

I've gotten the socks as well, socks in patriotic colors and sized for a child.  They get donated to one of the charities.

I think though that the most irritating ones are those which downgrade the pitch to the level of a child.   They're soooo insulting.   And much as I would support Toys for Tots and the Marine Corps' efforts,  they're probably the most prolific solicitor of any.   In addition, they won't accept anything that's not new.  If my father didn't make some of our toys, we made our own, out of cloth.  Why should I spend money to buy something I wouldn't buy for myself?

On a related matter, the other solicitors (online "banks",Costco wannabes, and some of the newer online spots with no phone number or no brick and mortar store),  are really offensive.   I received a credit union solicitation from one of those outfits, addressed to my mother, who's been deceased for almost 2 decades.

When I called to give them a smart aleck response, I got stuck in a phone holding line.   I was going to tell them that I can't present their superlative offer to my mother as it would require special permission from the cemetery, but more importantly, I don't want to disturb my mother's casket.   I'll call back first thing some morning and put those idiots in their place.

I'm tired of all the charities sending me stuff this time of year trying to guilt me into making a donation - In addition to the nickel prominently displayed to ensure I'd open the envelope I've got holiday cards and return address labels too.... last year I even got two pairs of Christmas socks! I don't need this cr*p, I don't want this cr*p and I'd much rather they put the $$ spent sending all this cr*p to better use. End of rant.

Just got my booster shot. I'll get the strong flu shot when it comes in.

The weather is moderate now for this time of year - a few days above freezing are forecast. It's not really bad till it gets around minus 30s though the other day was a shock. I don't think I could handle the very hot weather too well. I mostly stay inside these days when it is really cold. Don't know how I managed working into my 70s and having to deal with snow and ice and the car during the winter. Guess you do what you have to do.

But.... it's not even cold yet 🤣
(and I live in a warm part of Canada, I'm grateful my ancestors didn't settle on the prairies!)

As for the heat I don't mind a brief heat wave but yeah, anything over 90°F for more than a day or two is too much for me.

Cwillie, I can not even imagine living in such cold.

We are wearing winter clothes when it is 70°.

Today is 77°, overcast and feels cold.

I suppose our 110° summer days and 98° summer nights would be hard on folks from your neck of the Arctic.

It's cloudy today, temps hovering around freezing with drizzle and light rain a possibility and I really don't want to go outside for my walk so I'm bribing myself with the reward of a coffee from Tim's (large dark roast regular please), which will at least keep my right hand warm while I walk home.

Hey Willie, we're okay where we are but we live in a medium rise condo. But in the outlying areas.....man oh man! Horrible damage, flooding, mud slides. The rain has been continuous. Most of October and all of November so far..............RAIN!!!! No human damage that I have heard of. I guess having your home flood out causes mental damage though. Nothing has had the chance to ever get dry. I was saying to hubs that I need to get some heavy duty rain gear if I want to continue my outside walks. The treadmill just doesn't cut it.

Thx for asking Willie!

Hey Gershun, hope all the people in your life are safe and dry (you too of course). I've been looking at pics and videos and the amount of infrastructure damage is jaw dropping.

Our U.S. post office had a collection at the curb. (awhile ago).
They failed to pick our bag up.
Nothing was expired, so we took it inside and ate it.

Today is our local food drive - pack a bag with non perishables, leave it at the curb and the firefighters (with sirens!) and scouts will come along and pick it up. Every year I seem to hear about this after the fact but this year I actually have my bag prepped and ready on time!

This thread is not over-used, and I would like to continue the topic of itching.
The forum has many threads and comments on itching.

In January 2020, Lealonnie wrote:

"My mother had violent geriatric pruritis (which is what itching in the elderly is referred to). We tried everything to get rid of it; it started under her breasts then moved to her upper thighs, then her back, and wound up all over the place. After trying 10 or so different lotions, potions and pills *Benadryl lotion included* I bought her some Dermoplast which is a spray that has benzocaine in it. Also Lanacaine works well in the same way. Those sprays were the ONLY thing that worked for my mother's itching. One day, the itching magically disappeared, believe it or not."

Hey, Cwillie!
Here's a neat trick.
Dress up, put on your mask, and go door-to-door to your neighbors handing out candy to them.

The whole world is backwards and upside down now anyway.
