Yeah, apparently it all happened so fast Barb - His mommy had just barely pulled him onto her lap and the nurse swooped in before she even had a chance to help hold his head steady as she was asked to do, I imagine from there it was all damage control. I don't care how stressful your job or how bad your day has been, I can't imagine treating a little one that way.😒

Oh, man, that SUCKS, CW!

I recall that my grandson, a bit younger, ended up in the ER with breathing issues and the nurse wanted to get something done quickly. My son in law basically body blocked her and insisted on explaining to him what the nurse was going to do. I have NEVER been so proud of him, but it took quick thinking and courage to do it.

Thank you Chriscat. I appreciate your words and I agree. I like to think that people sit on mom's bench and read the inscription wondering about her, who she was and what she meant to those who loved her.

I'll pray that someone kind will sit there tomorrow, say her name out loud and send special thoughts out to the universe. I think of her every day. Tomorrow won't be any different.

Gershun, sorry to read you are feeling low. Anniversaries like this can be painful. If you are unable to go to the park, or if you do, and the bench is occupied, can you take comfort in knowing the bench and park are being enjoyed by other people? There are memorial benches in a park local to me. I see the inscriptions on them when I’m walking past, and although I never knew these people, I feel their voices or those of their families are being heard across the generations of people using the park. Then I see the young children playing there, and I’m reminded of our place in the cycle of life. I find this strangely comforting. Of course your mother would understand if you can’t make it this year. Be kind to yourself on this day, especially if you haven’t been well lately, and just allow yourself to feel however you feel.

I've been binge watching shows. It's cloudy and depressing here today but I did get out for a walk yesterday.

It's the anniversary of my mom's death tomorrow. I usually go and sit on the bench we had dedicated to her at her favorite park across from where she used to live on this day. I've got five remaining siblings and yet I'm usually the only one who goes. Because it's Mother's Day tomorrow and it may be crowded there I may have to skip it this year. Even with covid I imagine there will be the usual mob there. I usually have to sit patiently (or not) waiting for someone to move from the bench when I go. I haven't been feeling well lately so not sure I'm up to it this time. If I don't go I'm sure my mom would understand.

Moms service was beautiful, and the rain did its thing the day before and after,, it was beautiful and sunny for the service. Just family and 2 friends from MD, and it was just right. even the dogs behaved! We left one in our bedroom and one in the bathroom at Aunts during the service, and even the chihuahua was pleasant to everyone at the meal at my Aunts. Of course it helped everyone was giving them nibbles from the food! I managed to get through the reading, and the pastor was wonderful. Got to see about 20 relatives I have not seen in awhile, and we all shared memories and laughs.

Cwillie!

You have been busy!
Going by what is happening 'out there' in the world, I am content to stay home.

Later, I am going to check on the live beach cams throughout the world.
Then try to shower all that sand off between my toes.

Hope your weekend is everything you thought it could be.

See you later....

Hello out there, how is everybody doing this weekend? Anybody?...

I have checked all my usual web sites, gone for a long walk, and played what seems like a thousand games of scrabble and solitaire. I'd go for another walk but my feet hurt, and besides the weather is cold and cloudy and unpleasant. Can't go anywhere because we are still supposed to stay at home (but judging by the volume of traffic everybody else is having family visits for mother's day weekend anyway) And..... it's only 2:30......

Will pray for you, Pam.

We are having mom’s service soon.

Our moms will be there with us in spirit. At least that’s how I feel.

They are united with our dads now, free from any pain and at peace.

We are having Moms burial next Tues. I know she has been gone since 1/8, but I am having a hard time with this. My cousins and Aunt have most things in hand as it will be in the town she grew up in. and I am so blessed to have all the help. But I swear I just "lock up" when I have to decide anything! It was a chore emailing the pastor about her, and he is a wonderful man my Aunt found who knew my mom,, our talk was very comforting. I just want to hide rather than deal with any of it! I am stressing about everything, and terrified that when I read the poem I picked out I will choke up. I did that at Dads service, but caught myself just as hubs was about to take over for me. So pray for me,, Im going to need it.

We are under stricter measures than ever yet case counts are soaring through the roof, I am so over this - checking the morning news has part of me wanting to crawl under a rock and hide while the rest of me wants to throw off the traces and run wild. I've had no contact yet about vaccine availability. And on top of that the trees are pollinating and I want to tear my itchy eyes out.😖

Here in Md they are finally getting it into the Drs offices. We got an email 2 weeks ago, hubs repsonded he would take whatever they had, and 4 days later he got Moderna right in the Dr office! So much easier than the lists and drive bys.

cwille,

Can you sign up for more than one location?

People do that here. They take first available.

They are asked to cancel the others.

Sometimes they do, other times not.

Then they have to find others to receive the vaccine which isn’t an issue unless it’s near closing time.

AZ is only open to those 55+ while they study the risk for younger age groups NHWM. I have no idea where I am in the queue, but since I only logged on this morning probably not anytime soon.
Most of the 80+ group who want it have received their first dose of Pfizer, we have only recently opened that tier up for those 70+ (65+ in some places) and other identified high risk groups.

I am a news junkie and I like to check the BBC, ABC, Al Jazzera for different perspectives. And of course MSN likes to try to shove American news down our throats on their platform.

cwille,

Chris,

So true. I believe that Astra even said the blood clots may or may not be related to the vaccine. Who knows, right?

I got the Moderna. No issues except sore arm.

Restrictions are letting up here.
(3)
Report

We have Pfizer too, and also today was the first day someone got a Moderna jab in the UK. The largest number of jabs has been with the AZ one though - at least 18 million shots given of that one, to date. With those kinds of numbers you are bound to see a few cases of very rare side effects, if indeed they are even linked to the jab.

If you are interested, EU and UK regulatory authorities are giving an update later on today about the AZ jab and any potential side effects.

Since we’re just starting to emerge cautiously from a 3 month lockdown, it’s hard to see whether the dramatic reduction in UK hospitalisations and deaths are purely linked to the lockdown, or to the vaccination programme as well, but early indications are that the jab is doing its job. It’s reducing the number of cases through the protection it offers, reducing person to person transmission of the virus, and virtually eliminating serious illness, hospitalisation and death amongst those who might still get the virus after the jab.
(2)
Report

cwille,

Do they still have age restrictions on Astra?

Did you get your shot yet?

Certainly better than wasting the shot, even if there are age restrictions.

I know people that refuse to take any vaccine. They are afraid and no one can convince them.

I would be more afraid of getting Covid, than enduring the side effects.

Biden approved shipments of AZ to us that would have otherwise gone to waste because as far as I know it still isn't approved in the US. There has been a big push to use it up before it expires.
(2)
Report

cwille,

Yes, there is Johnson and Johnson, only one shot. It’s supposed to be slightly less effective.

There was an issue with Astra in younger people (under 60), it was causing blood clots. I don’t know if it’s still like that.

And the morning news reports there will be a stay at home order announced today. Despite current measures case numbers are exploding, mostly in urban areas - they are back to erecting field hospitals 😣
(2)
Report

Of course the press has glommed on to the blot clot story and that is what is driving my reluctance, plus the fact that Pfizer & Moderna both seem to be more effective. Is the UK 100% AstraZeneca or do they have other vaccines as well Chris?
