I wrote a couple of months ago regarding telling my mom that I have to move. I take care of her every other weekend. As my schedule of visiting her won't change, I explained that my husband will be losing his job at the end of July. We are moving to a more avoidable part of NJ. It will take me an extra 1/2 to stay with her as she is in NY. She is starting the tears and the comments and I really don't want to deal with them or have a argument. I have been taking care of her for 13 years and she really won't give me a break. She doesn't like my husband, and that is because she refuses to get to know him. Any suggestions, tough love, anyone have this situation? All help appreciated.
You don't want to deal with her tears and comments? Tell her that. "Mom, this move is necessary and cannot be changed. I wish it hadn't been necessary but I've made my peace with it. It upsets me to have you make a fuss over something I can't change, so I'm going to leave for a while, to give you time to compose yourself." Leave the room if she disregards your request.
