i am use to nice neighberhoods, but sence i moved here my income places me elsewhere i have a daughter on ssi we would like to move together but can't afford it,so what can we do,we are able to take care of our selves but just old i just stopped working.so how can we find a nice place to stay and low income.
The HUD portal is
Pick your state and you will be able to see a list of elderly apartments that are subsidized. This means the rent would be capped at 30% of your income.
You have to send away for the application and then fill it out. This is a lot of work but it does give hope that you could find an affordable apartment.
The other thing you can do is look up the housing authority for your town and ask them for an application for subsidized elderly housing.
These applications are work to fill out and the waiting lists for apartments are long. My parents were just notified that they were # 133 on the list for a local complex and another one has a wait of 5 years ... But I am hoping that they get a break somehow in the process.

Everyone who is stuck--- has to try thinking "outside of the box". If five of you join together like Kate and Allie or the Golden girls you will be just fine. Figure out what you still can do. Laundry is a huge task that is piling up in most houses. Many of us do not have the first clue how to cook. If you still drive, pick up and drop off for kids is an enormous burden on two working parents. Piano lessons are lacking in many childrens up bringing.
Thank you
