I'm tired of cooking/preparing 3 meals a day. It's just the two of us but boy oh boy can that woman eat!! She stays slimish, I get fattish. It's bad enough I do everything here much less start making her one thing and me the other. At times I feel guilty when I buy her fast food cuz of the nutritional value....not to mention I eat it too.
It’s sad and frightening to think about the possibility of being shot at for pulling up in a driveway.
My daughter and her friend accidentally turned into Drew Brees’ driveway. They had pulled into the driveway so they could turn the car around to drive in the opposite direction.
Well, his security team were on them immediately, asking them what they were doing.
R sounds like a great guy. He doesn’t seem to let anything keep him down for long and he has been through quite a bit!
I like his determination to make the best out of a crappy situation. Of course, it helps that he has the support of a good woman standing beside him. Y’all make a good team!
need - both you and your dd had dreadful experiences. I remember when your dd was assaulted. I can't imagine having a gun pointed at me, I'm glad you both survived pretty well. Not something you ever forget.
nacy - life in the country is safer still I think, though around here, farms and their equipment and vehicles are subject to theft by druggies. R had his Jag parked at the farm and they broke a window but didn't get the whole car.
Alva - thanks re the scans. The neighbour was supposed to shovel the walks but didn't so that indicated an empty house. It may have been a factor. I've read about the moving van theft. This wasn't far off. The neighbours dog went ballistic in the back again last night but by the time R got outside he saw nothing. They got in by using a pry bar on both front doors (the front porch is 1/2 glassed in) and also broke one of the small windows in the porch too high to be useful for gaining entrance. The police came out quickly and forensics too but we know the changes of catching anyone are low.
I'm feeling a little like we are walking on lily pads in crocodile infested waters. There is safety in spots but the whole picture is a bit daunting. I was so hoping that this year would be an easier one.
I need to count our blessings. R is ahead of his PT goals and that's great. We are living in a very safe community here at the condo. My phone wasn't working yesterday and I had an Amazon delivery coming and I need the phone to buzz the delivery person in. Got a knock at the door and a smiling young man said the driver was having trouble getting a hold if me, so he took my parcels and brought them up. He asked my name and introduced himself as "Jamie from 211." It's like a big extended family here - people look out for one another. It's a good feeling!
Hoping scans all come back clear for R.
So sorry about the house.
The culprits do seem to know when places are empty and they go for it. When my friend N. died over a year ago, her executor had a TIME of it keeping squatters and robbers out of her home which finally had to be wired with good security and boarded up until sold. Was a mess to manage as the executor herself was three hours away. Neighbors tried, but by the time they noticed anything out of whack the damage was done.
We just had a case in SF where home was left for some short period and they drove up so blatantly with a moving van blocking the drive and were in for HOURS with the neighbor unable to get the police to even act on it. Get this, the reporting neighbor was an ex city Supervisor on the Board of Supervisors. The police on day shift did go in, and year, they were basically packing up the whole house. Two guys apprehended. And given our city not a blessed thing will happen to them.
Gershun, Good riddance to your ex!!!
I've never been though anything like that. It all must be really hard, to get over. I imagine things like that really stick with you
Think I'll stick to waking up with the roasters crowing
Ir’s hard to go through these things but I am glad that R wasn’t there and relieved to know that he wasn’t harmed by them.
My daughter was mugged in the street by a man who towered over her and was very strong. He grabbed her purse and pushed her down hard onto the sidewalk. She was bruised and bleeding from where she hit the pavement. She needed stitches just above her right eye.
She made a police report but the cop told her that she didn’t really have a good chance at recovering her belongings. Plus, they had her phone that was in her purse along with all of her identification, credit cards and debit cards, etc.
Here’s the thing, my daughter didn’t have tons of cash in her purse but the crooks don’t care. They will kill a person if they feel threatened by them or if they don’t want witnesses.
I begged for my life at age 18 when I was robbed while working at a convenience store. The gun was pointed directly at my heart and I froze.
I couldn’t even give him the money until I heard him say, “Give me the money or you’re dead!” Hearing the word ‘dead’ snapped me out of my frozen state of mind.
But it is a total violation when this happens whether it's someone you know or a stranger. Hope R doesn't let it affect him long term.
Hugs!
The police said when they raid drug houses they are always amazed at the piles of stuff there that has been stolen and can't be sold. R said there were things of only personal value which couldn't be sold which were taken. He's quite discouraged understandably. Now he's going through the "should have's". Hind sight is 20/20.
I hope he will be able to get himself together to empty out the house soon and close that chapter. At least that job will be easier now. He will need help to do it. Packers/movers and storage can be hired. The problem is procrastination which may be worse now. All I can do is encourage him to do what is sensible and try to see he eats properly. He can't afford to lose any weight and tends not to eat when he is upset.
Well just heard from him and someone had tried to get in the back gate last night. He had padlocked it and they didn't get in. I really don't want him staying there for long. I'm not sure it's safe. However he is making himself some supper. That's a good thing!
Thanks for prayers . Much appreciated!!!
I am sorry that happened. My mom’s house was broken into a few months ago. Awful mess. So sad when this happens.
Hopefully the prescription bottle wasn’t from another victims home and the police follow up.
Oh yes, I started taking them before our granddog came over. I remembered you telling me to do that and it’s working!
You know that I am going to be hugging him, taking him to the park to play, etc. He is the sweetest pooch! I love him.
He’s smart too. He knows that I spoil him when our daughter asks us to sit with him.
He runs straight over to where I keep his treats, sits without me asking him to, puts his paw out for me to shake. He’s adorable!
Oh, Way…
Did you tell your son about the ‘nudists bowling’ event in your area? I laughed so hard when I heard about that! 🤣
My husband bowled on a league when he was a kid. I am a horrible bowler! One time I went with my cousin to go bowling and she got a gutter ball in the neighbors lane! LOL 😆 They were not happy that we were bowling next to them!
I can’t get the image of someone bowling with just bowling shoes on! Hahaha 😝!!!
Start your allergy meds now . Don’t wait until the dog starts bothering them .
So sorry to hear about the burglars . Hope they are caught soon and don’t return to the house especially with R in it . Prayers for good scans etc .
My DH is flying to Calgary today for work . Is that near you ?
So sorry to hear this news. Will definitely keep you and R in my thoughts and prayers.
R got a call from neighbours yesterday that the house in town was burgled the night before. Thankfully he drove the car a bit the other day for the first time since surgery and found he was comfortable. He took the car and went to town. This was not a few teenagers, but it seems experienced people. The neighbours saw them but didn't realize right away what was happening. They were well dressed. The house was a mess, Everything had been gone through and stuff tossed on the floor - medicine cabinet, desk etc. They took some stuff and left some packed up by the back door to get later. They even cooked in the kitchen and left the oven on. They took R's guns. their optics, camera, some furniture, I think some clothing - not sure what else.
But the bright side is that after forensics had left R found a prescription pill container by the back door with a name and address on it! He gave the police the details and they expect to be able to recover his things.
On top of that, related to his prostate surgery, he has bone and chest, abdominal and pelvic scans on Tuesday. It's routine and we pray they will be clear. I expect he'll stay in town till then as he has some repairs to do in the house and the appointments start just after 8 am. Tuesday.
I am just thankful he is pretty mobile now though I expect he will tire. He didn't take his cane and has been doing well here without it.
We would appreciate prayers for clear scans, the recovery of his belongings, and the apprehension and conviction of the thieves.
We have our granddog while our daughter is in Colorado.
I stopped coloring my hair and it’s just about all silver! My husband’s is salt and pepper.
Anxiety, yep! I like variety in life too. but I do understand that some people take comfort in their same routines.
I know people who take the same vacations too. It’s what they like. I wouldn’t want to do DisneyWorld year after year like they do.
To each his/her own. We should remain true to ourselves.
One persons yuck is another persons
yum.
No judgement here, hope that didn't come across that way
Maybe I find it so boring because I'm a Sagittarius, not sure but that would be so boring to me
Thanks! I did take Tylenol when I got home. How have you been feeling?
My husband and I finished our shopping while waiting for our tires to be placed on the car.
We parked our shopping cart next to the patio furniture and decided to sit in a comfortable spot and I spotted an old friend of mine that I hadn’t seen in years.
I told my husband, ‘Look, that’s Paul and his wife.’ So, I called out to him and he came over to me and gave me a big hug.
Then he said, “I just told Liz that I spotted y’all and she said, ‘No, that’s not them, but it kind of looks like them! LOL 😆
We chatted for a while and Paul was asking me about others who we hung out with. Some people I still see, others I don’t. Anyway, we decided to get in touch with everybody and get together for dinner soon.
I find it amazing that some people never change no matter how many years go by. They still look pretty much the same as before! Paul and Liz look great! They haven’t aged much. Gosh, it has to be at least a 12 or more years since I have seen them.
All of our kids are grown and living all over the place. It was fun hearing about some of my friends that I lost touch with because they moved further away from us.
Gosh, I feel so old sometimes when I hear about my friends’ grandkids! We don’t have any grandkids. Our girls are still single and don’t appear to be in any rush to settle down and have kids!
You know what else I find funny, that some people NEVER change their hairstyle, EVER! Liz’s hair is styled the exact same way as before. In all of the years that we hung out together she always wore it the same way!
I guess some people don’t feel a need to change their hair. I would have been bored to death not ever changing things up once in a while.
