Find Care & Housing
Dinner was a pot luck/cookout with cousins. And beer, of course. Who needs Lasix when beer will get the system flushed out, thank you. And the alcohol in beer helps kill the germs you pick up at the buffet. Sometimes there's a mystery casserole, you need to be cautious.

Dinner tonight was pizza, corn chips, Doritos and more beer with a few friends. Great night. Got my mind off a few things for a while :) needed that!

Dinner - leftovers from last night. Fave sis sent her daughter to drop off some BBQ meats - chicken, beef strips, and spare ribs. I ate it with my hot sauce and tried adding soy/vinegar to the avocado. I can't seem to get it right like fave sis's sauce. Mine came out so sour. too much vinegar, maybe.

Fave sis and I went shopping. I got the wok, a 3-in-one griddle/grill (I want to use the grill to try to cook some veggies like asparagus), and a spice rack. I also got some stick-its to mark the pages on the cookbooks that I would like to try.

Goal: I want to cook a delicious simple meal for fave sis and her hubby. They have done soooo much for me all these years. (It has absolutely nothing to do with sis putting me in her life insurance.... Really...) And because they know that I don't know how to cook, they always made sure there was food in their house when I visited. Even gave me the keys to their house if I ever felt the need to get away from home. I can't wait. I already want to include the chops on that menu. I now want to work on veggies. I don't recall them ever eating asparagus. I'd like to give it a try. I ate it One time at a friend's house. The Real asparagus - not the one from the can or pickled in the jar - store bought. It was delicious! She cooked it on top of the George Foreman grill. I just don't know what she did to season it.

I forgot to add... Guess what!? Oldest sis actually cleared the area below the microwave so that I can store one of my new cooking stuff! This is a news breaker because sis don't really do much of anything - other than babysit dad and do his laundry. I do the shower, toilet, bathroom floor, kitchen sink, kitchen floor, etc.. So, for her to actually DO some kind of cleaning - (even if it is just one shelf among sooo many) - is a Positive improvement. I must really give her lots of Positive Reinforcement to encourage her to Want to do things on her volition. =)
I asked her feedback about re-arranging the kitchen. She got excited and gave me details, which I round-aboutway told her that if we did that, I would be cooking with the pot chest level. Maybe something lower so that I can reach the pot without tiptoeing? And what about a moving table island? She got excited. YES!!! Let's hope this momentum carries her through!!!!

Wow Book buy all her favorite foods. To tell the truth she is probably bored out of her mind. Now she has found that there is something she has found you are prepared to admit to knowing nothing about and that you really appreciate her help. keep up the good work

Book - Could have been garlic & olive oil in the asparagus, suggest cutting or snapping off the tough ends before you sautee. Good luck with cooking the veggies.
I like your idea of including sis on rearranging the kitchen.

pigs are funny animals , ash . my family always had a couple or more in our younger days . had hens too but i doubt if i could live with all that egg laying ruckus coming from a henhouse in my older age . i value peace and quiet more nowdays -- sez the guy whos going to see alice cooper and motley crue at 7 pm tonight , and whos motorcycle sounds like every known planet colliding at the same time ..
ike is thunderous iz what im sayin .. alice is aware of the value of drums , its not unusual for his show to contain two sets of electric drums ..
i hope motley crue f,s up and lands in zimbabwe or something .
crackheads and old hippies -- i just dont see it working ..

Ashlynne ive heard pigs are great pets? my uncles SIL has one in Texas and she told me the pig goes into town and sticks his head in the shops to say hello then heads back home!! so sweet! Also you must google the amazing story of the woman who was having a heart-attack her little dog just sat on the bed barking BUT her pet pig squeezed through the dog flap lay down on the road until someone stopped then saved the womans life! How about fried green tomatoes? They are really good..need to be sliced thin..
Dip thin slices of very green tomatoes in a dry mix of 1/4 cup of flour; 1/4 cup of
corn meal; 1/2 teaspoon salt; dash of cayenne pepper...Place in frying pan with 2T. medium hot cooking oil (or bacon grease) (or canola) (or your choice) and turn on low heat for 15 minutes...turning every 6-7 minutes. Place on rack to drain..serve hot and crispy..this is an Ozark recipe and it is usually done with bacon grease. However, due to too much trouble, I just slice the very green tomatoes thin, cover them on both sides with cornmeal, and pan fry each slice using coconut or canola oil. Easier, and still good.....marymember

Kazzaa - my measly life insurance is going to fave sis. I happened to mention to her that I need to make sure that her name is on it because I had it since I was in my early 20's - that's like 25 years ago. The next thing I knew, sis texted me asking my DOB and SSN. Whenever I visit them or they visit us, sis and hubby always make sure to have food for me/us. Sis always tries to get me to go to any restaurant that I want to try but I tend to stick to the low-cost places. They Spoil me. My cooking for them will be one way to pay them back.

Green tomatoes? I need to check it out at the grocery store to see how that looks like. Marymember, I have copied and pasted your recipe. Something I would like to try one day. Looks simple enough. Oh, I need to buy a rack. I don't have one of those.

I love fried green tomatoes...my mom is from Pa, she grew up eating them, so we had them growing up too. Only problem here in my part of Cali...where to get green tomatoes unless you grow your own. I guess I could see if the fruit stands have connections with farmers who will sell green tomatoes to them.

Cap ... I am sorry but you are not qualified to be an old hippie, because you are not old enough to have been a young one. That was all before your time.

It's midnight and I'm about to make my first meal of the day. I'm not feeling well (spent 3 hours at the walk-in clinic this afternoon to find out I have a virus but not strep -- worth knowing before I visit the NH). I've tried to eat enough carbs periodically throughout the day to keep my blood sugar in safe range. I had a hard time deciding if any of those snacks needed insulin. I didn't think so. Man, I am SO tired of trying to think like a pancreas, as my Certified Diabetic Educator calls it.

My dinner will be potatoes and eggs and cheese. I'm finally hungry. And I will take insulin. Hope I get it right. Sigh.

Kazzaa the dogs and cats get along well, or as well as "kids" get along. I've always had rescue dogs. My big dog, Ash, 7, 85lb, came from rescue last year and occasionally she'll do a roar charge but it's all bluff and the cats are savvy so they ignore her.

If your old cat isn't used to dogs I certainly wouldn't get a puppy as it would be too hard on him. When you're ready look for a reputable local rescue and adopt an older dog who is good with cats. At best they'll become buddies. At worst they'll ignore each other. I'm older and creakier now so I only adopt seniors as I don't want to leave anyone behind.

Kaz I never thought about having an indoor cat till I came to the US but have one now.
Buy,beg or steal a litter box and some clumping litter and your kitty will be much happier and safer. Clean it each day and it won't smell. much cheaper than a visit to the Vet. An unused washing up bowl works if you have one lying around.

Kaz my 4 go out all day in summer but I keep them in at night because there are coyotes. In winter my big male insists on going out however deep the snow but he's only out for a few minutes - the others have more sense!

Yorkshire pudding, yessss! I grew up in the UK and my grandmas always made it. As you have to get the oil smoking hot before adding the batter I've always been scared to try it. I buy the pre-made frozen ones and do them in the toaster oven ... my bad.

Kazzaa, 8 cats, 3 dogs, they give each other baths and sleep together. If the cat or dog is raised with the other they get along fine. I had a dog that used to lie down and let the toads outside climb all over him to eat the mosquitos. They can be raised to get along. Brought old dog to aunt who has cats but cats were used to other dogs so no problem. I wouldn't live without at least 1 at (10 acres in country = mice and snakes) and I love my dog... alarm system I don't have to remember a code for...anyone comes I know it, make good foot warmers at night too, although I have awakend on couch with 3 cats and 1 dog on me, others on back of couch and in front,so it can get kinda hot and heavy...
