Shirley348, I know when Life Estate [or Life Tenant], you are responsible for everything even if you are now living elsewhere. The Life Estate doesn't go back to the owner until you had passed.

You may want to speak with the Elder Law Attorney to see how one can remove the "Life Estate" if you find you can no longer budget for the care of the house.

The life estate holder is responsible for all taxes and insurance while living in the home, NOT the property owner. If you’ve left the property you need to notify the trustee (executor of the estate) in writing.
