I would hire an attorney that specializes only in Elder Law. To find one in your area go to the blue bar near the top of this page and click on MONEY AND LEGAL... then click on "Elder Law".... you will find a box where you can type in your zip code or the zip code of the nearest largest city in your area. That is where I found my Elder Law attorney; she is outstanding.

Well, first off you need separate attorneys for each or there is a conflict of interest. That is why, when you petition for Guardian status, the first thing the Judge does is appoint a Guardian Ad Litem. The GAL is the attorney who represents the defendant (parent) during the hearing. Look for a lawyer with Probate experience since Guardianship is probate law.

When you became your parents' caregiver, did you set up a caregiving contract with the help of an eldercare attorney? You should certainly see one now.

If the plan is to apply for Medicaid for your parents, you will need to account for their money spent over the course of the last 5 years.
