I would start by calling Social Services in your county and asking for a needs assessment. They are familiar with not what the county offers but also other resources in your community. They hooked me up with respite volunteers, for example, and recommended that I apply for Medicaid for my husband who had dementia. We used Medicaid's Elderly Waiver program, designed to help seniors stay in the community rather than go to a nursing home. If this is a stone you've left unturned because you thought it was only for nursing home help, I urge you to call Social Services and find out what is really available to your parents.
