My mom finally qualified for what is known as Community Medicaid in NY. This is not nursing home Medicaid, but is designed to keep her in her own home. There are many providers to choose from but no guidance on which is the most likely to provide the most personal care aide hours. I chose Hamaspik Choice because they were recommended by our local Office of the Ageing. Even though my mom clearly needs round the clock care, they are only offering 9 hours per day. This is not enough for me to be able to go home and resume my life. I intend to keep looking, but each one requires a nurses evaluation and takes time. Does anyone have any recommendations for one that is most generous with aide hours? Here is the list of possiblilities for my area: Centerlight Healthcare Select MLTC; Centers Plan for Healthy Living; Elant Choice, Inc., Fidelis Carte at Home; HomeFirst, a product of Elderplan; United Healthcare Personal Assist; VNSNY Choice Managed Long Term Care; Wellcare Advocate MLTC. Thanks in advance!

Find Care & Housing
Community Medicaid, to my knowledge, never provides round the clock care. I would call one of the other agencies, or your Medicaid caseworker, and find out if 24/7 care is EVER provided. My guess would be that the answer is no.

My mom is blind and unable to walk without assistance due to 2 hip replacements. She cannot be left alone except perhaps when sleeping. She needs assistance with every task. I shouldn't have to live here when I have my own home and family. I need minimum 16 hours a day, ideally, would be 24 hours a day. The conflict-free nurse agreed with this need, but Hamaspik is trying to keep their costs down by ignoring the facts.

9 hours a day is huge! I would count my blessings.
