My father just passed away. My name is on the joint acct with my deceased father. I use this acct to manage all his bills and house expenses. My brother and I are in the process of selling my father's house. I told my brother that I would split the account amount with him once all is settled with my father's expenses, but he is demanding that his name be on the account. How should I handle this?
Curious, have you gone to Probate regarding your Dad's estate or was everything in a Trust?
He will receive an accounting when the dollars are settled after the bills are paid and your Dads affairs are settled.
Last thing you need is to have brother start spending money from and account you need to settle final expenses. Don't let him get into the position of doing it.
If he continues to complain...point out that Dad entrusted you to do this...not both of you...just you. So be it
