Father has dysphagia with feeding tube only-no food by mouth. I am being charged daily for canned nutrition over and above the room and board rates. (Father also has Medicare Part B which is supposed to cover feeding tubes and accessories under Durable Medical Equipment. I must be the only one who has EVER had this problem because NH doesn't seem to know how to file for it. Anyone else have a loved one in NH who is NPO but paying regular rate even tho there are no meals per day and cans do not count towards that and are an additional charge? Thanks.
All things considered, that's not too bad, still a lot, though, but better than many places in and around Cleveland. Ironically,my mom's Medicare statements have been coming in. Hospital and Assisted Living, made some nice money at her expense.
That being said you should read the contract. Generally room and board, is the room, meals, nurses and activities. PT, medicine, and the like are extra, and if not covered by insurance falls on the patient and/or his/her family. NH are in the business to make money and to provide the very least to make sure they make a profit.
