Husband just got cold. Give him canned chicken soup and orange juice. Rest. That's all I do for cold. Do they help and does anything else really help?

"Feed a cold, starve a fever" is actually good advice. As far as meds, a lot of cold remedies interact with Rx medications, so I would ask the pharmacist which product would be the safest for him.

I think most of the cold remedies on the market may help with some of the symptoms. They may provide some relief but not a cure.

Mayo Clinic has an excellent article on treating colds on their website. Search for cold remedies and find the one by Mayo.

Actually I believe chicken soup does help... it add extra liquid to the body, plus it taste good.   Out of all the canned soup on the grocery shelf, Progresso wins hands down :)

As for orange juice, I found it didn't make any difference.   I use to take orange juice for a cold, but now I don't any more because of acid reflux.

At the very beginning of a cold, I use Cold-Eeze which is a zinc tablet... and I find it works.   It can cut a cold down in half.   There are other products on the market, but first check with hubby's doctor.
