Hello it's me again! Well after three weeks of FIL suffering with fractured vertebra the have now discovered he has multiple myeloma so fractures will not be fixed through kyphoplasty but rather treated with radiation to kill the nerves in that area as well as chemo drugs for the myeloma. He will go to a long term care so he has transport to and from the hospital for radiation. He is 89 MIL is 91. She can not be home alone and can not afford in home help.my husband has been with her for four weeks and his sister does weekends so he can come home. My question is can she stay at the long term care with him? Or does anyone have any similar experience and could give me some options?
What are MIL's impairments, that she cannot stay alone? Your profile says she is depressed and also might be in the early stage of dementia. Does she need skilled nursing?
Have your husband and his sister looked into applying for Medicaid for their parents? This covers both long term care facilities and some in-home services.
