I have been a CNA since 2004. I've worked in hospitals, rehabs, SNF but mostly private in-home care. a friend needed help with his cousin (RETIRED RN). I needed a place and a temp job to afford a trip across the country to care for my ill father. He didn't tell me she was a drug addict and alcoholic. She hasn't paid me what we agreed to in our terms. Room and board, sometimes gas $, but compensation has not been adding up to the $500 a month wage since September. She is mentally and emotionally abusive. She is spreading horrible rumors and telling lies that may cause me problems with the law. She is moving out of state in less than a month and leaving me homeless, unprepared and broke. What can I do to be compensated?

And get a contract and make sure you are paid on time, red flag, if it is delayed or excuses made.
Yes, $500 a month is insane, more illegal if you consider minimum wage anywhere.
Here, $34.00 per hour, min 4 hours daily, 5 days is over $500 per week for part- time help. But, doing excellent job of cooking, cleaning, taking care of daily needs, driving to appointments etc.
Make sure you get what you deserve i.e. the more responsibilities the better pay.

Pack your bags and leave.
$500. a MONTH is insane! and it is abuse.
I doubt you would get any back wages and at what you were supposed to be getting paid it is not worth getting a lawyer.
Again...Pack your bags and leave as fast as your legs can get you out of the house.

When you knew you were not being compensated you should have quit this job and moved on to a job and a place of your own to live. Yet you seem not to have done this.

I doubt that there is a single thing you can do to be compensated at this point. Quit today, get a job, go to a shelter if necessary until you save enough for a room rental. Work your way up. And in future do not work for anyone who doesn't pay you the agreed amount on time.
