Walmart has the zippered plastic/vinyl cover. If you zip it on it takes TWO people to do it, its tight~! I cannot imagine in any way anyone could get it off, not these. And you can put the zippered end at the headboard or footboard, you have to remove eht entire mattress to get it off, impossible to do alone. I am taking about a twin size here. I feel your pain, been there.
Thanks all. Interesting about the zip at the foot of the bed. Here is what was happening. With waterproof 100% coverage full zip mattress pad in place, my MIL would wake up to find that she had wet the bed and TWICE, she managed to not just take off the sheets but TAKE OFF THE FULL ZIP cover as well! She is 85! Amazing. Then the next night. She would ruin the mattress. Lack of short term memory makes this difficult as she then would not remember what she had done. We have gone through 3 mattresses. Finally the health center ordered one like they have for her apt. So that seems to work. Wipes off. But I am going to investigate the bottom zips.
check out vinyl mattresses in your search engine. They have camp beds and hospital beds etc. If you just use waterproof you dont find much but the word vinyl seems to pull up alot more sites for waterproof mattresses.
Protector-extra sounds like a good idea. If you mil has a twin size bed you might be able to get a toddler mattress that is water proof. You also might try sewing the zipper tab on the pad. That way when you take it off all you have to do is snip the threads but she cant get it open.
OH thats a tough one, as my Mom was like that also at one time. She hated anything like a pad or even underpants, and she wore nightgowns her whole life too. Since yours doesnt have dementia she needs to be talked to about wearing a depends at night. My mom used to take it off too, before she peed on the floor but her dementia has advanced and she wears 2 depends to bed. In CVS they have womens briefs that look like real underpants, in the "depends" aisle. See if she will wear that to bed? They are expensive but it might work. IF she is wetting and knows it, she must understand she needs them right? Let me know, I would like to help but thats all I know. Good luck!
What happens if she wets and can't get her clothes off? Then she is sitting in wet pajamas, getting the sheets wet. My relative wears gowns to bed. She would like to wear pajamas but she can't because she wets. If she wets during the night, she will take off her brief, leave it on the bathroom floor, or even on the bedroom floor. She will put on a robe which is always layed out for her on top of her dresser. If she wets during the day, she will take off her brief and her slacks. She can't bed or stoop to put on a new brief or slacks, so she will put on the robe. When she is sitting in the living room, she will have a lap blanket, throw over her lakes, so she is always presentable looking. Thankfully, she has no dementia problem; she just can't dress herself totally. She has a waterproof mattess pad cover on her bed, and a bed pad on her bed. She complains about the pad being lumpy, but she has never taken it off the bed.
Just go to walmart and buy the one that zips around the entire mattress, thats what I did. Problem was, she pulled down her pants and peed on the floor then. I know have sewn straps to her pj bottoms and then cover her top with a button up velvet short night jacket I bought online, She cannot figure out how to get her clothes off now and it finally solved the problem. Just replaced the mattress with a free electic bed someone fromt the daycare donated, actually 3 were donated. Other than that, hospital bed mattresses are waterproof, our poice dept collects things for the elderly and they have 2 of them, are you in new england? Good luck.
