My Mom needs to have someone to care for her in ways beyond my ability. I want this done at home, but I want to find a service which is covered by Medicare, or her own health insurance, or both. I am not having much luck in finding this. I don't want her money to disappear.
Medicare will pay for some home care in certain situations, short term, if her doctor scripts it. Talk to the doctors office about that.
Mom's money is there to provide for her care. That's why we save for our old age. It sounds like what she needs is an Assisted Living Facility where she can get the assistance she needs.
I am planning to check out a conservatorship clinic in a few days to determine what I can do about her situation at this point...
Your Mom would need to call a caregiving Agency to hire caregivers and pay from her own pocket. My Dad had around the clock professional caregivers and it cost him $20k per month [cost varies from area to area]. Dad noticed if he moved into Independent Living or Assisted Living, the cost would be more like $6k per month..... so he took that option.
Now, if your Mom is running out of money, she can apply for Medicaid or whatever is available in California. I don't know what programs are available as each State is different. Medicaid will pay for full room, board, and care only in a Nursing Home as Medicaid says it is less expensive for Medicaid.
Remember, Medicaid is funded by the State taxpayers, with some funds from the Federal Government. What has me worried is that our current President is talking about cutting some Medicaid funds to the States. If that happens, programs will be cut at the State level.
