Hi,

I am hoping to receive some advice on what i need to do for my 92 year old mom. She broke her right hip in 2014 when she was 86 and took a long time to recover. I didnt think the rehab facility she was in was very helpful. I took it upon myself to get her walking again with a walker which she was able to do to the point where she didnt need any help getting out a chair, bed, go to the bathroom to the point she could do things for herself.

On Jan 29th of 2021 she had another accident and broke her other hip and has been in rehab for the past 2 months and she is due to came home 4/14 of next week. This going to be a lot of work for my girlfriend and myself as I will be unable to work because family always comes first.

I am wondering if there is away to get help financially for being my mom's caregiver. Is there a program that can assist with our financial needs. Also, is there a program that could help with caring for her when i need to do errands or other personal things either free or for a nominal charge.

Please feel free to offer any advice for people who have been through this as it is mostly new to me when it comes to full time care. Thanks in advance :)

Medicaid is for the impoverished and will pay for long term, in facility, care. He very careful about spending mom's money for anything that is not for her sole benefit. Keep all receipts, do not comingle your funds. Schedule an appointment with an elder law attorney to set up all her documents correctly.

AND ask yourself whether mom would want you to sacrifice your future and financial and emotional well being to care for her.
