My grandmother would like me to be her caregiver but she currently resides in an apartment complex for seniors and disabled individuals. The only way for me to live with her would be for her to have a letter from her doctor stating that she needs a caregiver... However, she doesn't outright have a disability, such as Parkinson's or Dementia. She does have high blood pressure and has a history of strokes. She will be getting knee surgery next month, and I'm sure my grandmother's doctor would right a letter for her to have a caregiver during her recovery, but is there anything that can be said/done so that the doctor lets it be known she needs a caregiver for long-term? For example, if the doctor were to write something such as: My patient, ________, has a history of _______ and requires a caregiver -her granddaughter _______- for assistance in ADLS and to provide a better quality of life. Sorry if there are any typos. Thank you.
When you say she has a history of strokes: what history, exactly? Any underlying heart disease, besides the high blood pressure? Any concerns about dementia?
I know that the complex requires a doctor's note like the example I provided.
What in asking is, what reason can we provide for needing a caregiver since she doesn't have a condition like Parkinson's or dementia...
