Stress can cause hair loss. It is normal to lose as much as 100 hairs a day. But if you have bald patches developing, you need to see a dermatologist or your GP.

BTW - in case you're note joking about the scarves and hats - that's about the worst thing you can do when trying to prevent hair loss. The scalp needs to breath. Plus - if you've got a sweaty head it can contribute to what's called Sebum - a crusty and/or oily condition of the scalp which keeps your hair follicles from breathing. Too much hair products also contribute to sebum so it's a good idea to wash your hair about once a month with a shampoo designed to wash away any product and/or sebum build up in your hair and on your scalp.  Neutrogena makes one - I believe it's called "Clean".

Marge, if your hair loss is severe or sudden, although I'm sure stress doesn't help I don't think you should just assume it's the reason. Is this a general thinning over time that you've noticed or actual falling out in clumps?

After my dad passed away I began to lose quite a bit of hair. I also developed a mystery rash. I think it was a result of not being able to grieve my father properly and the sudden 100% being responsible for my mother. So yeah - in other words - stress.

I did a ton of research about hair loss in adult women and eventually came up with a vitamin/supplement routine that stopped the hair loss. No such luck with the mystery rash - in spite of several trips to a dermatologist. After nearly a year the rash went away on its own.

Good times!

Yup. It can also turn stark white under stress. I have had both happen. Lucky I still have quite a bit of hair, but I know one dad my hubby will make me so crazy all of my hair will A: turn white and B: fall out.

Not to be silly, but yes, stress can cause hair loss. Usually continuous, unrelenting stress. Which is kind of what life is, right??

Yes. It can cause hairloss. So can hormonal changes and many other things. Taking Biotin can help but you have to get to the root of the cause, so to speak ;-)

My hair thinned out big time over the past few years, and I really believe stress was the cause. Plus some meds we take could also cause some loss.

Remember those small triangle scarfs that would tie either under the chin or around back? I need to find those as every day has become a bad hair day :P Maybe we can start a new trend or recycle the trend.
