My grandmother, was very independent before she took her first fall and FX her shoulder. Not a lot of medical problems but this fall took her down, she’s a family person. Loves to be with us. She just not doing better in the NH rehab. I don’t know if it’s the lack of interactions because the staff don’t really come in much. We cant go due to Covid and we know we would make sure she has good nutrition here and water intake. She’s just mentally afraid to walk. Right now she’s taking steps on the walker but has anxiety at Rehab so they have her on Xanax and she’s sleeping more on that. I just am not ready to have her there permanently. Did anyone improve once they got home ? It’s her first admission in her life and the four walls are killing her I just want her to progress in PT but it’s only so much we can do without going inside the building
All the best
I can’t determine if you’ll be able to care for your grandmother at home, but don’t make a decision based on thinking she’d get better care at a facility.
As long as you can care for her.
As long as you can provide a safe place for her. There should be no problem bringing her home.
If you are bringing her home before her allotted PT and OT are completed you can have the therapists come to the house.
YOU also need to make sure that she follows though with the therapies that are prescribed.
Keep in mind if she is afraid to walk this can snowball into her not walking, and wheelchair use, and a 1 then a 2 person assist for transfers then that goes to using eq1uipment a Sit to Stand then eventually a Hoyer Lift.
I believe that our mental health is more than 50% of our healing process.
If everyone is on board with trying it at home, go for it.
