My dad is unable to self transfer from his wheelchair to toilet. He is currently living in LTC. But if I wanted to bring him to my home, there is no way I could transfer him nor do I want to help toilet him. Has anyone here hired someone to come to their home for a few hours to assist in doing this type? If so, who and how did you hire the help.
Also he may need help getting in and out of a dental chair perhaps at some point, and again would need help.
Thanks!
A private duty nurse? One of the agencies that provide home health aids?
I think I would start with his facility and then call others in your area. Hire them for half a day or whatever time needed.
I know if I would not have had my brother it would have been a big problem for me with my dad. Come back and let us know how you worked it out.
For the visit to the dentist, why not ring the dentist's office and ask how they usually manage wheelchair-user patients? They probably have their own methods either of examining people still in their chairs, or of transferring them safely - they can tell you what sort of hired help you might need.
