My husband and I are taking care of my elderly mother. He is the primary care giver because I work. My mother has dementia so she will forget what happen. I need him to handle such things as bathroom accidents, clothing her. We have a caregiver come in twice a week, but he is with her most of the time. Of course my mother is shy about it, but I explained to her that he must be the one.

That is so great that your husband wants to help out. My Dad was very shy around his paid Caregivers but eventually that shyness slowly went away. It might take longer when the caregiver is a member of the family.

I remember when one gal wanted my Dad to take shower and she said she would help him, Dad kept making excuses.... she put her hands on her hips and said matter a factually "I raised a house full of boys, there isn't anything I haven't seen". That got Dad laughing and he finally gave in :)
