He has urinated on himself in the bathroom five times in nine hours without changing. Called 911 two days ago since my husband was unresponsive, thought he might have a stroke. The ER tests showed he was fine, possibly a tia. He has been diagnosed with dementia 6 years ago. We have had our good and bad days since then. Since the ER visit he hasn't been the same. He is definitely responding differently to questions and situations. At two this morning I woke up and he was urinating through his shorts in front of the toilet even though he had lifted the toilet seat. He didn't want to change. He has done it four more times since then and still is wet and hasn't changed. When I try to persuade him he gets very agitated. Until now we have been able to get through whatever has come up, now I am at a total loss. Up to now he has had an very occasional bathroom mishap, nothing at all like this.
Could it also be that he has to pee so quickly that he can't do what he would naturally do? The doctor could recommend a pill to relax his bladder.
If that doesn't work, remove all his undershorts and replace with Depends made for men... they are in grey color and he might not notice that they aren't regular undershorts.
Keep experimenting until you find something that will work.
Can you talk him into taking a shower? When he comes out, have some Depends for him to put on.
I think he needs a neurologist. Good luck.
