My mom has Alzheimer's. She has a small area on her ankle that the dermatologist treated for a sarcoma. I put fluorouracil on the area for 9 weeks to eat out the cancer cells. Now we're at the stage where I stop the cream but clean the area with vinegar and water everyday day and put Neosporin on it. I put a bandaid on it but, every single time, she'll remove it.
Do any of you have a suggestion on a bandage she can't remove?
Hard to say why they do those things. My mother had senile dementia and did the same. She had a cyst removed on her foot, doc told her leave bandage on, we left instructions on the white board - but off came the bandage the minute we left. In the NH, she fell and broke her arm and they put a soft cast on - she removed it at least 3 times a day. They never did find a way to stop her. We think it was because of boredom she did it, as she was bedridden.
