I've finally found a wonderful full time caregiver who will work days for 40 hours a week taking are of a parent with dementia. Question: the VA will hopefully pay for Aide and Attendance for Mom's care which will be in the $800 - $1000 week cost range. Not sure how long this takes but as long as it goes through the wait will be worth it. It appears I'll need to hire a payroll company to make the payment and to do all the payments to the government. Many of the best in the profession want to be paid under the table. Any suggestions on how to handle this? My instincts are to hire only those that I can put on the payroll. Any help would be greatly appreciated in this matter .
The interesting thing is that if I did not "spend" all that was in the monthly budget I could "bank" the extra and that could have been used towards the purchase of an accessible vehicle, or used to make the house more accessible for him. Never had to do any of that and pretty sure when he died there may have been funds remaining.
I guess what I am trying to say is also look into if the VIP program is still an active program it may provide you with even more money to pay caregivers or do things that need to get done. Combining Aid and Attendance with the VIP could help a lot.
the VA will also answer your questions
Once funds started getting deposited I paid the sitters through Cashapp. I did not treat it like a payroll check.
You should get back pay from the date of the application to the start of the deposits.
Since your mom used VA funding in the past and has an account maybe the process will move quicker.
I have just added more sitter time for my mom so I will need to apply for more funding also.
Dad passed.
VA took many months to finalize the benefits but it was worth the wait. Hang in there.
I paid the caregivers using an online app so it could be traced in case of an audit.
The sitters had to sign a Caregiver agreement from the VA and it is detailed about what services they will provide and who provides them.
You can use Cashapp(my fav), paypal or any app you like.
