After 15+ years of actively observing my mom's alcoholism, I finally attended Al-Anon. And I bawled the first time I opened my mouth to talk. It was so nice being around people who don't pity me! They've all been through similar stuff, and they just all nodded at my story in the way only someone with the same experience could. I feel so seen, heard, and respected.

If you are dealing with an alcoholic in your life, go to al-anon. I've wasted so much time waiting.

Same for families of drug abusers. A friend has a daughter hooked on heroin, and she's been going to Narcanon for close to 20 years.

Her husband refuses to go, and every time there's a crisis with their daughter, he loses his mind and falls apart. My friend has learned coping techniques, has detached emotionally from her daughter's choices, and is in a much better place mentally than her husband.

I hope you will continue to attend their meetings. It's always comforting to know that you're not alone in what you're dealing with, and they will give you many good life tips to be your best self along the way.
God bless you.

You didn’t waste time- you persevered until realizing what you needed and putting together how and where to access it.

Now, move forward-
