I am working private pay with taxes being deducted for a man and his wife.

She has had Alzheimers disease for the past 2 years. She is slowly declining and this has caused a lot of issues that are coming out. What I am looking for is advice for the husband.

I am with the wife and what we for an activity that she likes is walk. We walk about 30 miles a week. She is 79 and in very good shape. He has not taken away her credit card, and lately compulsive shopping has started when she is out walking around by herself (she will not be contained), meaning she knows her own way around where they have lived very well for the last 43 years. She will not listen to him if a her to stay home. She says there is nothing to do at home. This is typically after I have dropper her off from our walking outing.
He has taken her to a doctor who clearly told her “you have Alzheimer’s Disease”. She has been in great denial of this and never will discuss anything, other than she is absentminded.
The wife and I have developed a very good relationship and she knows me to be a “walking partner” not a person to help her because she doesn’t need help in her eyes.

I am trying to find local Alzheimer’s Resources for the husband, because he is having a hard time with all of this. The denial has been hard on him as she asks the same questions 50 times a day. I am a respite for him from 8 hours a day to 4 hours per day depending on the day.

She has severe undiagnosed OCD and extreme anxiety but has refused any treatment for these two conditions her entire life. Also, the husband says a very odd relationship with eating. All undiagnosed because she refused to seek help for any of these issues.

He has checked out Assisted Living Facilities and they will not take her because she is too active and has no interest in doing anything that goes on in an Assisted Living.

He has talked to a mental health Psychiatrist regarding her undiagnosed OCD and her obsession with eating or not eating (Dependent on the time in her life). and now the denial that she has Alzheimer’s Disease.

is there anything that anyone has an idea of as to what this husband can do or can reach out to, to get some professional help? Her personal doctor will not allow him to intervene because she is not incompetent according to this Dr.

I am sorry if this is long, there are a lot of moving pieces to his or their personal journey.

I would appreciate anything that anyone has a suggestion on.

thank you.
