This is after I made a formal written complaint to the head nurse about an incident that I witnessed with my mother and a worker. I asked if they are aware of from my cell phone gets cut off after about 15mins duration. This wasn't happening until last month after my complaint. I checked my carrier and they told me that they are doing this and by law they must remove it because I am my mother's power of attorney and surrogate. Who do I need to contact for assistance with this issue?
Do they have a 15-minute policy? They might have already had that in place and now they have decided to enforce it.
Here’s exactly what I would do in this situation:
First, you probably got a big stack of paperwork from the facility about their policies. Read that and see if there’s a timed phone policy.
If not, I’d start asking. Next time I went there and I saw an aide walking down the hall I’d say “Hey, I was just wondering, do you guys have a rule where residents can only talk 15-minutes on their room phones?”
And then I'd ask another random aide. I’d pose this question to at least two or three employees and I’d be more inquisitive than accusatory.
Just start at the lowest level and try to resolve it. You may have to get your mom her own cell phone if you want to have unlimited speaking time.
Why not ask the facility precisely what's going on rather than a forum of people from all over the world who would have no idea?
Good luck to you.
