She falls a lot constantly telling her to use her walker. She tells stories. She thinks my brother has a girlfriend and that she is driving her car and stealing all her stuff. She is a hoarder when she isn’t looking I try to throw more stuff away. I take her to her doctor appointments and give her her meds change her everyday because she is incontinent. She had a lap dog she love it was her companion and I ran over it that was devastating. Now I took her to the Dog shelter got her another 6 month old pup so cute, but I am trying to convince my brother to put a fence around the house and he won’t do it and she always walks outside with the dog like she did the other one and no lease that day and I did not see it and I killed it. It just upsets me terribly. I am up there every day helping and I need help
Not a good idea. I am a firm believer that a person with dementia should not be living alone.
No way I would have replaced a dog with a puppy. Not just because she has dementia but taking care of a puppy takes a lot of time, energy and it needs training.
Is anyone POA for mom?
You need to start looking for Memory Care for her.
Start the application for Medicaid ASAP. (you do say she can't get it..are you sure?)
See an Elder Care Attorney make sure that all the paperwork that needs to be done is done.
Contact your local Area Agency on Aging or your local Senior Service Center and see if there are programs that might help her.
Mom should not be living alone .
Have you considered MC? It is better not to wait until it is an emergency.
Some tough decisions may have to be made soon.
