Insurance seems to only cover treatment for individuals who have DUIs. I don't want my parent to drive drunk, so I always pick them up or convince them to stay home after drinking. How can I get insurance to cover their treatment? They've admitted that they need help, but when they call counselors, they will not take on a new patient without insurance coverage. It's incredibly frustrating.

Medicare pays for alcohol rehab. It says so on the Medicare.gov website.

Has someone told you that alcohol treatment is not covered by their insurances?

Thank you!
Both Medicare and private, but private secondary will not deem something medically necessary if Medicare doesn't deem it medically necessary.
Secondary private insurance only covers remaining balance when Medicare did not pay in full (not when Medicare declines).
I think the Primary doctor advice is a good place to start.

Are you talking about Medicare? Or private insurance?

Have you called your parents insurance carrier and asked about coverage for in-patient rehab?

And yes, talking to their primary doctor is a good place to start.

Bumping this up in case others have some experience. Could you and your parent seek help through his/her primary care doctor?
