"Started buy doctors who were German immigrants who produced red wine specifically for the benefit of their patients."

So what? The fact they were doctors means that alcohol was ok? Today the scientific research is clear: No amount of alcohol is recommended. None. Not a single drop.

You are one angry ant. It’s not your business what the original poster does. You don’t drink. Good on you. Soon no one will post on this site if people like you keep doing this.

"Refer to Lealonnie's post about the Mayo clinic."

I went to the Mayo Clinic's website and says nothing of the sort! It says that in moderate amounts alcohol MAY have health benefits. It goes on to say that according to current guideline no one should start drinking alcohol in any amount. GO READ THEIR WENSITE BEFORE POSTING ON THINGS YOU HAVE NOT READ.

I can never understand why people who drink or smoke use the excuse that it steady their nerves. This is a misnomer in the mind of the drinker or smoker that drinking or smoking eases their stress. Drinking or smoking is just for the moment as a band-aid to their problem, and once the drink or smoke wears off the person is back to have the stress all over again. Drinking or smoking does not get to the root of the problem. To get to the root of this problem, you need to take your MIL to her PCP to be diagnosed. DO NOT self-medicate your MIL with alcoholic drinks because continual drinking will eventually cause her to become an alcoholic by wanting more and more alcoholic drinks.

Think drug interaction and physical safety. Those are the first thing I think of when it comes to my mom.

My mom drinks wine every day. Do I like it? No. Her doctors kind of tip their nose in the air at it, but, at 90, right now where she has people and supervision, what can I do. She has one medication that says she should not drink but she is still mostly in control of herself and knows the consequences.

She won't take certain medications because, "I'm afraid I'll become an addict."
THAT'S what drives me crazy.

My dad was ckd stage 4, and then dementia happened, quite possibly related. Throughout this he enjoyed wine, steaks, coffee and Big Macs. I would have given dad wine on hospice if he had requested it.

Seriously, let her enjoy a wine cooler daily to mellow her out. For most it’s just that.

Yes but they asked. I will say for the last time: Alcohol is a very dangerous substance. It has been the cause of incalculable misery throughout mankind. This is true. Even small amounts are not recommended by top health authorities. Do what you want and enjoy your life.

I’m surprised the comments got heated, some aggressive. I thought it would remain a calm discussion. It’s OK to have different points of views.

I hope you’re all right Gnomes.
