I've always been a traveler, even after my husband was diagnosed with vascular dementia, then Parkinsons. I would travel 2 or 3 times a year, leaving him with a good caregiver. I stopped traveling about a year ago. Six months ago he went under the care of hospice at home. Since then, he seems to be doing quite well under the circumstances. He gets up and walks around, wanders actually, and has a voracious appetite although he is losing weight. It occurred to me this could go on for years and I will have spent my final years sitting around the house. I'm getting antsy to get away for awhile but since he is under hospice care I worry about something happening while I am gone. Hospice can't help. They say there's no way of predicting these things. Has anyone else experienced. Ideas? Thoughts?

I might plan out what should happen in case he does pass away while you gone. As long as all the arrangements are made in advance, then, if that happens, things would be put on hold until you return.

Also, discuss it with the Hospice team. If he declines to a place that they feel the end is near, they can let you know. You can take out travelers insurance to protect your investment in case you have to return as a precaution.

Jazzy, reading this thread may help. You are not the only one to struggle with this.

Oh I would definitely have 24/7 care! And from the help that he is used to. I guess I just worry because he is under care of hospice, what if I go off and leave him and he passes while I'm gone. But again, if this goes on for years, I will be too old to travel. Anyone else been in this situation?

Go, go , go! You are right this could go on for years. Isn't that what hubby would want you to do? I am sure you do not mean you would not find a 24/7 care situation.
