Her insurance company has only given her 20 days in rehab and now days are up and she still can't move her body. This is new to family and talking medicaid and taking her home is horrible. Our elderly in this country is treated like crap.

Find Care & Housing
I'm so sorry you have to cope with this after such a shock.

Medicaid will not take her home if she plans to return to it. If she doesn't, since it is an asset, you may have to sell it to help pay bills. But if she may go home, the house will stay though Medicaid will put a lien against it if the other money runs out.

No Medicare policy pays for long-term care and no other insurance would take her. So, your best bet is to start talking to Medicaid. There is a lot of paperwork, but you can get through it. Once it's done, your mom should get the benefits.

Every state is a little different with Medicaid, so please get started so you know where she stands.
Take care,
Carol

Medicaid will not take her home if she intends to return to it. Staff at the rehab facility will help guide you through the process. I'm sorry to see this hit you so suddenly, but you will get through the mounds of paper work and it will work out. Read more of the experiences others have had on this site and then feel better.
