She can barely stand on her feet even with a walker. When she is sitting on the side of her bed her dresser is about 6' away and it is difficult for her to get her clothes out. I am trying to think of something to put closer to her bed that I could put a change of clothes such as panties, gown, housecoat and the pads she uses. I live with my mother but I still work. She has a sitter for 7 hours each day. So, there are a few hours each day that she is alone, and sometimes she needs to change clothes so that's why I am trying to think of ways that she can sit on her bed but still reach a change of clothes. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In the morning, ask her to help you pick out a change of clothes in case she needs them during the day. Put everything she needs on a chair next to her bed, including wipes and pads.

Jeanne's suggestion of an over-bed table on wheels is a great one. We have one for mom. I can't begin to tell you how handy it is.

My husband's problem was more confusion than mobility issues, but to make dressing easier for him I used a wooden rack with colored plastic bins. (They sell these mostly for storing children's toys.) No drawers to open, all items visible.

If she spends most of her time in bed, an over-bed table on wheels (like they use with hospital beds) is a nice way to keep items close at hand. An iced beverage, a change of clothes, a tissue box, the day's newspaper -- anything she might need access to.

Just my opinion, she should not be alone at any time. You might need two part time sitters to cover the gap. If she is the surviving spouse of a veteran, look at VA Aid & Attendance to help. If she is on Medicaid, talk to her caseworker.

Any chance of moving her bed closer to the dresser? Otherwise a chair which has a back on it where you can place hangers for her tops. The seat for the rest of the items she needs.
