To make a long story short. .. 3 1/2 hours later after this normally sweet old lady cursed me out i took her into her house and showed her, her ceder chest and cabinet. All she said is "i must have been dreaming". She has always made up stuff in her own mind but this was extreme. I made her a doctor appointment and now im trtrying to figure out how to get her there. My brother told me she has been doing the same thing to him.
I'd try to get her to see the doctor sooner than later. I'd check to see if she has a UTI or some other kind of infection. I'd say whatever you need to get her there. Some people are creative and say she needs an immunization update, check up, insurance required visit, etc. Or tell her it's your appointment and ask her to go with you.
I'd explore her house to see how she's functioning in other areas. Any spoiled food in the fridge, unpaid bills, canceled insurance, damage to the car, dirty linen, untaken meds, etc. Is she bathing and changing clothes? I'd chat with neighbors or her friends and see if they have noticed anything unusual. I'd write notes about what you have witnessed that causes you concern and provide that to the doctor prior to the appt., so they know what to look for and they can do the proper tests. He may be able to do a mini mental evaluation in his office, although, if it is dementia, it could be early and sometimes it takes a while to get that diagnosed...depending on the symptoms.
When my LO was first diagnosed with Vascular Dementia, she would ask me if she was dreaming a lot. She'd say that it felt like she was in a dream and ask if things were real. She also said things that were not true, though she thought they were, such as a woman came to buy her car. Or a woman came and brought her a bag of cat food. She reported quite a few things that happened in her mind, but they were not in reality.
