My father left hospital yesterday and my mum was given a DNR paper signed by 2 Drs He is of sound mind, he had a stroke 28yrs ago which was massive. he recovered well and had a slight one about 8 rs ago. He broke his hip on his bad side and didn't get his mobility back. His chest as far as we know is clear and no heart problems.
It sounds as though, perhaps, your dad, in the opinion of the two doctors involved "lacks capacity" to make an informed decision about a DNR.
Does your mom or anyone else in the family have the right to make health care decisions for your father? If not, I think what I've read about UK law indicates that the decision rests with the senior treating physician.
What is your mom's understanding of this situation? It sounds as though you need to have a discussion with dad's doctors about why they think this is the appropriate action to take now.
the Dr did come in and asked if we had discussed a dnr, but it upset my dad, he thought he was going to die. So she left with us to talk about it. But on his release they had signed it. We was not asked to ok this request.
