He locks up his door and sleep when he is active, but he can barely move when he wakes up, though he threatenes if someone opens the door as I broke it several time to give him his medications and also to help him standing up and walking. What should I do? Should I insist? Or should I just leave him do what he wants?
*He locks up the door because he has some hallucinations from a certain medication that makes him think somone is going after him.
Your Dad could have an Urinary Tract Infection [UTI] which can also cause a lot of different side effects including hallucinations. An UTI can be treated. It's an easy test, Dad just needs to pee in a cup. The results can be given the same day or the day later.
By today's standards he is young, so there must be some underlying diagnoses here?
Can you tell us a bit about your Father's physical condition, his underlying illnesses, and his mental condition.
As far as insisting others do as we wish they would do, we can insist anything we want; but that won't change that it is an individual's individual decision that determines what he or she does or doesn't do.
