He wears Depends and sometimes it helps but not all the time. He just stands there and does it like he doesn’t realize what to do. He’s unable to assist in the cleanup. He’s 70 and I’m 77 and not cut out for this level of care. SNF in my state average $13,000+ a month! So I guess one way of looking at this is that I am getting paid a small fortune so best to suck it up and deal. Just need to know if others are experiencing same?
Yes, any nursing care is expensive, but there are many ways to get help with that, such as help from VA if applicable, long term care insurance, and Medicaid.
You have to now do what's best not only for your husband, but yourself as well, as you certainly don't want to be in the statistics where the caregiver dies before the one being cared for.
Please take care of yourself.
Nursing homes are wicked expensive BUT you are going to burn out real quick regardless of how much money you are saving. I would either get an aide every day for a few hours every day and hope that he has an accident when they're there to handle it. Or really it's time to put him in a facility. MC. This is just tooooo much for you to handle at home.
the incontinence is by no means the end stage. You will be going through a lot before that happens.
And he probably does not realize what he is doing and he can not assist with any clean up.
You will probably not have to place him in SNF but Memory Care would be an option.
