I want to know what is the best response. Do I tell her, "you just told me..." Or act like it's the first time I heard it? I want to help her stay tuned in.

Thanx midkid58& cwillie. Maybe I didnt ask that right. Mom has been showing slight changes for year or so. She still goes out with boyfriend ( to the bar), girlfriend house (drinks) bathes, cooks some, can be unsupervised. I want to help her by responding in a manner that stimulates or promotes the best effect. Omg as I type this I realized it doesn't matter. End results same. Waaa

My mother has simply age related dementia. Reminding her that she already told me something 3 times is pointless. I may shorten a long story she's re-telling, but for the most part, I just roll with it. She doesn't remember telling me, why add to her confusion?

Repetition is one of those challenging things you just have to let roll off your shoulders.
"Uh-huh, I see it, thanks"
"Yes, it certainly does get dark earlier now doesn't it" (after the 4th repetition of the comment)
Depending on the comments you could try to redirect the conversation to something else so she doesn't repeat continuously. Or if you have the patience, just reply like it is the very first time.
