At this stage of her life she is living in the past. I still think that she is enjoying every minute of the present five minutes later she will not remember. I have been through this with my grandma and my father. We did outings I can tell you that she is more lucid in the morning than in afternoon. She still don't remember but do you and family enjoy the time .then enjoy every second oof your time that you have left. It is worth it to have the memories yourself.

I like the answers given. I will only add that an outing planned to your mom's capabilities and interest will have a beneficial effect on her even if she doesn't remember it. It will improve her mood, and keep her cognitive abilities from fading as fast.

Imho, you should take it easier with your mother, with trips that are simpler and, in effect, kinder to you both and that isn't to say that you aren't kind now. You are a wonderful caregiver.

I guess it depends on the person. In "the moment" if it makes them happy then go for it. With memory loss they probably won't remember but they will enjoy at the moment it is happening. Now it also depends if they are finding it more disturbing to go out and be around strange settings, then I would say maybe find some nature channel on tv and watch together, or some discs with pretty stuff on to watch. I wish you luck.........

Heaven help you if you care for someone with Alzheimers. They are gone and nothing will fix that. Don't even attempt to do special things - it rarely will work and you will never know what they are capable of doing. Nothing will help. If you want to and can put up with "outings", fine - but if not, accept it is a part of the past. Do NOT allow this ill patient to torment you or abuse you or otherwise upset you. Do what YOU want to do. They are gone.
