My mother and father were married for 60 years and my father recently passed away. My mother's health is getting worse by the day, she needs to have in home care and to be around other people. Everything I look at is so expensive, what does someone do that can't afford that.

Find Care & Housing
Ps. If she's mobile, often the senior center will offer daily pickup and drop off. They are wonderful and offer activities, companionship, noontime meals, even day trips. So please consider that if its outside companionship she needs. You might check with your church and see if they have a senior program or "senior helpers" volunteers that will visit mom, take her on errands and outings, provide senior luncheons, etc.

Contact or visit your local senior center or center for aging in moms area. Talk to them about her needs and financial restraints and let them guide you on options. They can provide resources and referrals you might not be aware of. There are VAbenefits, sliding scale residence assistance, small group settings, etc. Narrow those that are affordable and meet her needs, them visit in person. I always recommend visiting by yourself first to screen, then pick one or two that seem best fit and take mom to visit. Consider widening your locale if you need.

Good luck.
