Mother-in-law in Assisted Living with Alzheimer's. Just want to know who is responsible for Assisted Living bill during the transition between Medicare & Medicaid. We can't afford to pay the bill, I would think there would be provisions for this.

Find Care & Housing
Look at the contract that was signed. Do you really mean assisted living? That is usually private pay (not Medicare or Medicaid). The contract may even require a 30 day advance notice before ending the contract. Who agreed to pay the AL facility? That's who is responsible. Or, do you mean the Nursing Home? The NH is used to the delay in payment while Medicaid gets approved. Assuming it is approved the payment would be covered retroactively.

If you signed her in to the facility, you could be held responsible. If your status is "Medicaid pending", the nursing home will wait. However, in many states, Medicaid does not cover Assisted Living at all . You need to know what your state actually covers.
