If you like to read, you might find a book by Pat Snyder helpful. It is called "Treasures in the Darkness." It is her account of the early stages of her husband's LBD. She talks about talk therapy with a psychologist.

Another book I highly recommend is "Loving Someone Who Has Dementia" by therapist Pauline Boss.

Yes, asking the psychiatrist to refer you to a talk therapist is a good idea!

Thanks for your advice jeannegibbs. My mom has a neurologist specializing in movement disorders and a psychiatrist already. We thought she could benefit from some one on one talk therapy. I guess I could always ask the psychiatrist for a referral.

Helen, your profile says that your mother has dementia. Who (what kind of doctor) diagnosed that? Perhaps that doctor could give you a good referral.

I wonder if it is really a psychologist that you need for Mom. A geriatric psychiatrist and/or a behavioral neurologist is more apt to have experience with LBD, I would think.

You are wise to be searching for experienced doctors. With LBD the knowledge levels of the medical professionals involved can have a big impact on the quality of life.
