My 92 y.o. mother had her knees replaced one after the other in 2019, but she did not get sufficient post-op physical therapy - and refused to allow an at-home physical therapist into her apartment. So now, her legs are weak, her posture is poor, and she has balance issues.
She was hospitalized last month for another issue, but seeing her mobility difficulties, she was discharged to a rehab/nursing home near her apartment in the Bronx. It's a second-rate place at best.
After her surgery, she was at Kendal On Hudson in Hawthorne, NY for a month, and very happy.
Can anyone recommend a nursing home/rehab in the Westchester/ Riverdale (New York City) area that is clean, where the professionals truly care, where she will have an opportunity to socialize, and will receive meticulous and vigorous physical therapy? I hope that's not too much to ask--yikes! (LOL)
I am in fact a researcher by profession, so I can and have done the research. But I know there are generous and well-experienced caretakers hereon who can add a lot of interesting personal experience to my research.
You should check for sure if medicare for NY covers a rehab in NJ...the facility is modern, beautiful, highly skilled staff, great personal care, activities, restaurant type meals, etc. "Care One" has rehabs in NJ, Connecticut, PA - not sure about NY, but Teaneck is very close.
Wishing you all the best~
